Tony Milosorov and John Graham. What a pair of lard buckets. Almost incomprehensible that they both ran sub-2:10 for the marathon.

It's Carlos Lopes - especially since in his prime, he was about the smallest of any guy mentioned here, so the percentage weight gain is huge and most obvious.
Ovett looks older in Maxim's picture, but not particularly fatter at all. Lopes is much fatter.
Henry Klugh!
Definitely Ngugi. Saw him at a meet last year in Kenya - dude looked like Charles Barkley before the diet. I would have put him at 300+.
Garry Bjorkland. He had a gut when he ran 2:11 at Grandma's. He was the man.

Laban Rotich :)
XC89:
Where's Jeff running this weekend? If anybody can break Drayton's record I believe that Scheibler's the man.
Monty
Ngugi
Only if it was Gun Time not Chip Time.

Oprah Winfrey......oh, wait. You said world class. Does finishing a marathon in under 5 hours count as world class?
Ovett was hit by a car while (I believe) on his bike a while back and as far as I know been fairly laid up as far as running goes...
Ovett looks OK to me in that picture. I wouldn't expect him to stay 150 lbs forever. Keep in mind, the guys next to him in that picture are tiny little men.
The guy is over 50 now, do you expect him to be below-10% body fat his whole life?
Ovett did commentary for Canadian Television for the World Champs. He had a bit of a gut but he's not in that bad shape. Remember he can't run anymore.
Picture people, pictures.
What did the car accident do to him that he can't run?
I think his ankle was crushed. Same as Bannister.
That's awful -- I have a friend who got whipped out surfing in October and got his ankle caught between two rocks. In the process of dislodging it, he more or less shattered his ankle and caused five spiral fractured in his lower leg. He was a very good runner during his prim (2:28 marathon) and put ups tens of thousands of miles.
He's cycling and swimming and ran a 7:58 mile on crutches last I heard. They were saying it would be very unlikely (although not impossible) for him to ever run again. He has something like nine permanent pins in his ankle.
I had the privelege of attending Runner's World's 25th anniversary bash some years ago in NYC...on stage were many many of the last quarter century's legends...only one man was completely unrecognizable...Carlos Lopes...I swear, no matter how hard you looked at him, there was no frickin way to see your 1884 oly marathon champ anywhere in there...I have espied most other candidates on this list either before or after and while there are a handful of hefties, no one and I mean NO ONE is in the Lopes category...final word, man!
