Stember DFL in semis heat

he couldnt even win NCAA's, also he is the poorest winner i have ever seen.

The problem is Stember has so many poor races on the international circuit. He is just not that good.

That fact that he is among the top US 1500 runners illustrates why US distance running is in crisis.

Stember needs to get better.

The NCAA is the minor leagues of distance running. It is a good train ground. Gruber is basically a talent NCAA runner that is overwhelmed at the elite level. It reminds me a talented minor leaguer moving up to the big leagues and bombing out.

Stember's been 10X the runner Gruber's been over his career, yet you guys pretend otherwise.

No I'm saying the NCAA was just a training race to Lagat, it was not important to his career.

I understand what you're saying and basically agree....except that elite racing is different from other walks of life. The 'arrogant ass' personality of Stember probably allows this mostly 3:40/1:48 to contend much better than his usual seasonal PR's would normally allow.

In other words, being arrogant and cocky is an asset.

Look at McMullen of 1996. He used to actually try to make milers dislike him. Not just Holman, but everyone.

As far as his Lagat comments though, I still support Stember on them. I'll bet a lot of U.S. elites are glad he made his comment too.

Actually, while I support Stember through most of this week, I do agree that his USATF winning conduct was unnecessary.

I had no problem with last year's arms up in the air. However, this year's plane routine halfway around the track was bad behavior towards the losers.

If he got knocked on his butt by one of the other racers during that, I wouldn't have complained. In addition, if the plane routine gets done in his face during the trials (in case Stember finishes outside top-3), then I won't complain then either.

Chepchumba was popped big time. Bernie got off on a technicality according to an angry IAAF that didn't like Templeton saying the B sample was negative among other things. The drugs are brought in by the coaches, etc. The Americans (and most others) are subjected to random tests year round, not so for the E. Africans. If you try to tell us Africans are more moral or pure, then you have never visited Africa and are very naive.

You're right. But, I think many more of our sprinters are taking illegal drugs as compared to any other country. We just don't talk about sprinting on this forum.

HUH? frank shorter never got to the top, how much higher can you go than an olympic gold medal? Steve Ovett World record holder, Aouita, Olympic champion as well if i remmeber correctly and several world records. Pre got 4th at the Olys, not bad at all and who knows what he might have done, not seeing your logic here.

No such thing as a "semis heat". Heat - Quarterfinal - Semifinal - Final. Come on, you 'tards should know this from all sports, not just running.

THREE:

The true burning question is: Who is worse at grammar? SolRichards or Nyariki?

Sol is at a higher level (of badness) more consistently, but Nyariki gives him a run for his money on this thread.

To be fair, I don't think Nyariki is a native English-speaker, though.
