Brian Sell is back in the game

I am so excited for this weekend. To see Brian make his comeback in our city is huge. My high scool team will be on the course painted with Brian Sell beards. Can't wait to see him destroy the Keyans.

Didn't see his name in the results. Anybody know what happen to him?

He has had one of the saddest departures from the sport. After retiring a dozen times, you would of thought he would do a better job with his exit strategy.

He appears to be one of those guys that still wants to be significant as he shows up to expos and signs autographs but is no longer willing to hammer on a daily basis. I feel bad for him.

Bob Kempanian was competitive while in Med School. Sell hasn't even started school yet but has been using the Dental school excuse for the last 2 years. He has gone from one of the most respected marathon stories to a sad excuse maker over the last 2 years.

From what I know, he is contractually obligated to make those appearances. Sell is in no way making a real comeback right now, nor has he in the last two years. He still runs and trains, but has no intentions of getting extremely serious again.

He was such an inspiration. I wish that he would just disappear and let us all remember the old Brian Sell. I dropped by the Expo and he seems so uncomfortable in his new role as a Brooks pitch man.

It is not working. Good luck with the next chapter of your life. I will remember your toughness and your ability to give all of us underdogs someone to cheer for.

he's get-tin free brooks gear, travel and appearance money for those expos, its a nice deal. Its as golden parachute as it gets for any Brooks athlete.

No doubt. Sell is a good guy that worked hard and deserves respect. He owes the typical LetsRun harpers nothing. Did he talk a lot of s**t and not produce? If there an ounce of indication that he didn't try to maximize his talent?

If he wants to show up at local 5K's and win in 17 that's fine with me. If he wants to show up at local races and run in a Cat In the Hat get-up ala Jerry Lawson that's fine too.

I've never understood all the jerk-wads around here that treat running like their personal entertainment and want to throw competitors that have a bad day, a bad year, or simply want to retire and enjoy life to the lions. This isn't the frickin' Roman Colesium.

or could it be that Brian Sell has become that 18 minute 5k runner that he mocked? I don't mind one bit if Brian chooses to collect $$$ for what he once was. It just seems so unlike the guy that always earned everything he got. The self made man who wants no hand outs is now accepting welfare. I guess that Pre was collecting food stamps and he died a self made man. No reason Brian Sell can't pick up some cash for selling his picture. His window of opportunity is closing and by 2012 he will simply be the answer to a trivia question.

The ironic question in 2012. That will only be able to be answered by runners slower than 18 minutes for 5k.
