RE: Josh Cox (the human hype machine) gets destroyed

I've run Comrades twice, and I'm feeling empathetic towards Josh Cox. The last time I ran Comrades, an "up" year, I had to walk the last 10 miles. I simply could not will myself to run. This had never happened to me before.

The next day, flying to Cape Town, I filled two barf bags. For the next 48 hours, I had the worst fever of my life. I couldn't get out of bed.

Things happen when you travel, especially when you travel to a new country. It's easy to get sick. This is what happened to me at Comrades, and it could have been what happened to Cox. I hope he recovers quickly, and returns to try Comrades again.

Congratulations to Kami Semick, Nikki Kimball, Michael Wardian, Bart Yasso and all the other Americans who finished Comrades (including Cox). It's an amazing race, perhaps the best and most unique on the planet. More Americans should run Comrades. No one ever regrets it.

For that alone, they deserve great praise.

Anyone who has done a lot of distance running has had a day or two where they dealt with similar issues. If you say you haven't, you are probably bending the truth.

Keep pushing for better times, Josh. And more importantly, keep pushing the cause of those who are in great need.
