Why is Steve Nash so overrated?

He's made it pretty far this year. At least I think so. Maybe you think he's overrated because of all the praise he gets from ESPN for gutting it out through all of his injuries. He's a pretty good passer and shooter too, if you have been following his season.

dude, the SUNS would be nowhere without Nash; he is a great leader and makes his teammates better. sure he has a lot of turnovers and mediocre defense at times, but who wouldnt want this guy on their team? HE IS AWESOME. Steve Nash is the MVP! Steve Nash is the MVP! (as Mr. Smith said it at the all-star game)

It is hard to compare Nash with Stockton until their careers are done. Stockton got a lot more opportunity earlier in his career but Nash is playing better as he ages compared to Stockton.

Stockton also played the "two man game" for years where him and Malone would be on one side of the court and all the other players would be on the other. He could get an assist on virtually every Malone basket. Nash was the first point guard to circle behind the basket often turning the defense around and got a lot of assists that way.

They are very close comparing them from the ages of 30-35 (a 6 year span)

One area where Stockton was NO comparison to Nash was in the salary dept. There were 12 years between them but Nash made $65,625,000 to Stockton's 21,000,000 over those 6 years!!!

What a great bb game ! I still think that the Suns can win it all... When they are clicking on all cylinders, they are impressive. Except for Steve Nash of course, who is a total loser :) After all, he's just a goofy little Canadian, eh...

cant compare salaries really. john stockton was never considered a superstar MVP player like steve was/is. you would never see john take the last shot many times (other than the infamous one that sent them to their first finals)...on the other hand...ive seen steve hit so many runners in the lane to tie games up its silly. his one legged drifting jumpshots are crazy.

Stockton was never concerned about money, he took less to stay in Utah. He was a very loyal guy.

Lebron hasn't dribbled the ball twice in a row with either hand for about 7 years. All he does is travel and charge.

If I'm not mistaken, he also always negotiated his own contracts.

I never said LeBron nor Kobe were not tough. My point is that the media fawns over their every single move and attaches silly hyperbole to it.

As for the player who takes the most hard fouls, I humbly nominate Dwight Howard, who lately has also been giving the most hard fouls.

Nash is not over-rated. The mere idea is silly.

Nash is overhyped as someone said, because he's the face of something good in the game. He;s not really overrated. Ive seen him dominate many games, basically winning them on his own. As for his defense, he was second two years in a row in drawing charges. Also intesetingly, the opposing point guards average less than thier season average when playing the Suns.

The top-seeded Suns closed out the fourth-seeded Mavericks in six games to move into the conference finals for the first time since 1993, when they were led by NBA MVP Charles Barkley. This time, they were led by Nash, who has removed all doubt about his MVP award.

"Before the series I wasn't sure he was the MVP, but I definitely believe he's the MVP of the league now," Mavericks swingman Jerry Stackhouse admitted.

Over the last four games of the series, Nash averaged 37.0 points, 11.5 assists and 7.0 rebounds.

Stockton played part of his career with the longer 3 pt line, which affects his percentage downward, but he is the all time leader by far in assists and steals. When I say that Nash isn't as tough, I mean only that he is not a physical player like Stockton. He is tough in the sense that he will play with injuries, etc. Stockton almost never took a game off.

Stockton was the guy who would shoot the Jazz back into it at the end of every game, if no one else could do it, and usually no one else could do it. He was so unselfish that he would always defer, but he was unshakable in the final minutes of a game, deadly if he wanted to shoot, unlike Malone who was great for 3 and a half quarters. Against the Bulls, it was always Stockton keeping the Jazz in it at the end. I honestly think that if he had wanted to, he could have averaged mid to high 20s per game. As for Kobe, he has always been a mid to low fg percentage shooter not because of lack of ability but because of poor shot selection. He always has to prove that he can make shots from anywhere on the court with a hand in his face, off balance, falling to his left from 23 feet.

The NBA 3 point line has been 23'9" around the arc and 22'0" in the corners since it was instituted in 79-80. For 94-95 and 95-96 it was shortened to a uniform 22'0" around the entire arc. In 97, it was moved back to the original distance and has been there ever since.

In the short line years, Stockton shot 0.449 and 0.422 which are above his career 0.384, but his best year was with the longer line (2001: 0.462). Nash was a rook in 96-97, and has never played with the short line.

If anything, the longer line benefits Nash though, as it allows more space for pick/roll. Also, the hand-checking rules help him out relative to earlier players.

2. Clutch Play

Nash is a pert time employee who gets the accolades of CEO's and their 6 digit income as well. Yes, he is the quarterback of the team however, we are talking basketball and unlike Peyton Manning he is responsible for both ends of the court.

Let's not make excuses: he has always possessed the quickness and speed to guard other points in the NBA. Yet he lacks the intestinal fortitude to dig deep and not want to be embarrassed by his peers or even second stringers. Steve, with no resistance allows coach to put forwards and guards on his man while Kobe, Lebron and Dwade demand to guard the other teams best player. The Suns are forced to take arguably the best athletes in the world and make them put their hands in the air and guard an area because of Nash's horrible defense.

Steve is never mentioned with the stone cold killers in league when it comes to knocking down the game winner. Conversely, his shooting percentage on clutch shots is horrible missed another against the Lakers Saturday night. So, his shooting percentage is really tainted because he does not get it done in the crunch where special players shine.

Okay, he plays with busted noses and eyes etc. but he does not will his team to victories like MVPs do. Pundits can make unjust statements about his ability to do so but where is the proof? no where to be uncovered. If he showed the same desire of defense I guarantee my energy would not be spent on bringing to light his real game.

Watch this, his assist to turnover ratio is one of the worst in the league. Guess playing glorified street ball has its disadvantages. Now when you take a close look at his turnovers coupled with his lack of defense or steals his true assist number is 2 to 3 less than reported. Example: CP3 will have 12 assists, 2 turnovers and 3 steals so his net assists would be 13. Whereas, Steve will have 12 assists 4 turnovers and 0 steals net of 8 assists.

Some compare him to John Stockton and Karl Malone and Barkley. Heck even Barkley was leaps and bounds above Steve defensively.

Lets not get it twisted he is a good player but no where near great. Unfortunately he will some day be placed forever with NBA greats because of super hype what a shame!
