WARNING to those who run LATE on the Chicago Lakefront path

I've run that tunnel maybe 100 times at night (10yrs ago now). Never saw anything like that. Scary stuff. Be safe, folks.

Yes, you can get to the lakefront. First, take Cermak toward the lake as far as you can go. Then head north on Calumet ave, cross the metra teracks on the bridge at the 18th st metra stop (near soldier field).

Once you're on the lakefront, I'd run south - there's more greenspace and fewer interruptions that way. An out and back is probably easiest, although it would be easy to make a loop out of it and get back to chinatown on streets - there's a bridge over lake shore drive every half mile or so.

Just got in from my run on the lakefront. A LOT of police presence-- on bikes, several squad cars, and unmarked cars along the path.

Hope this helps the situation; it would be a real shame for those of us who run after work to lose this great spot to train all summer.

Besides, carrying mace is annoying.

More than half of convicted criminals are white. What are you talking about?

so, the upshot of this fear mongering is that in a city of 3.2 million people, there was an assault and a shooting at night, and the police came out in force afterwards. truly shocking.

Is it usually a pretty safe place to run? I believe what you're saying, but this is a weird story.

Dean it's safe most all of the time. In cold weather all the time. On hot nights the ghetto comes out after 6 o'clock and dares you to run into them.

They cut patrols the last few years and word got out among the trash.Daley thinks cameras can replace police. This is proof he is delusional.

Hopefully they'll keep the cops out in force on hot days and keep the trash out.
