now when you say 100mpw are you referring to the Solinsky way of describing mileage (e.g. hitting that level once or twice a year) or do you mean 100/week throughout the ten year period you listed with the occassional reduced week
either way seems somewhat overkill for a 33min 10km, are you male of female?
I averaged about 6000-6500kms per year from 1980 to the end of 1984 and averaged about the same 1986,1987 and 1989. 85, and 88 involved extended overseas excursions which impacted heavily on training.
I was a single man at the time, I partied hard and trained hard.
I typically did blocks of 150 plus kms per week for 6-10 weeks then reduced the mileage to 120-130 with more intensity. Obviously some much lighter weeks when racing thus bringing the average down a bit more over the year.
Overkill, well maybe but I thrived on higher mileage running and I improved from a 35min plus 20 year old to a 33min 25year old. I also later had very good results in long mountain events.
I was privileged enough to train with some great world class runners so it was no hardship to do it. I can look back and know I probably got the best out of myself.
The last few years I really haven't "trained", I just get out and run (and ride and paddle) for the fun of it. I still love to race so I try to do sufficient running to allow me to get out on the weekend and beat myself up in our club races.
