Also, anyone notice that since the prodigies of Blood and Hasay, seems like there are more of these phenoms? Parents pushing their kids after seeing the type of runners Blood/Hasay become?

4:34 wins a middle school race in Oregon? Where I'm from we call that the high school state championship.
That’s a really good time. A Illinois 13 year old 7th grader ran 5:18, 5:12 then 5:11 last week. She has only raced four times and she can run faster. It is hard to run without competition, as far as the comments about maturing; this girl is a athlete not just a runner. She weighs 107 benches 130, 25 full pullups, 55 pushups. She has a journal dating back several years with work she has done. State champ softball, basketball and maybe going to be national home school champ at some track events. She doesn't run more than about eight miles in a week. She might not run when she gets older but she will continue to improve as an athlete. She does all this because she is proud of herself and understands that hard work and attitude is what it takes in life not just sports. These girls will be successful in life because they know how to work. Why say anything to discourage them????????????
Oh, that was 1600 meters. She has won all events entered 200,400,800 and 1600. Not looking for praise, just respect for working hard. Some girls actually do this for themselves and don't have to be pushed. She has older sisters and knows things can change, but doesn't need to be reminded of it every time she does well. Let girls grow older without comparing their times or accomplishments from when they were younger. Every time I see some posted positive about young girls that’s what someone replies with, stories about girls who fizzled out when they matured…………………..
This Illinois Prodigy is perhaps an exception, believe me. For every ten like her, there are nine screeming parents banking the house on her being an Olympian. I especially liked reading that she does multiple sports.
As Jaoquim Cruz' old coach (Luiz de Oliviero)used to say....it is a crime to race a kid on the track before he/she is at least 14 years old. These young kids should be developing flexibility and agility (through sports like soccer), something that distance running actually inhibits.
Thats absurd to have a rule not to race on the track before 14. Racing is the most basic primal sport there is. They probably shouldn't do serious training such as logging a lot of miles. And I agree its just as well to play other sports. But racing is probably more important pre-14 than it ever will be after. An adult can stand up to the bogey man. A kid under 14 needs to learn to run from him.

Don't worry, we'll find a way to ruin her before she graduates from college.
Well it’s my responsibility to make sure she doesn’t get ruined by coaches or sports programs trying to use her. She won’t be ruined because she has learned hard work, dedication, commitment and loyalty. I have seriously heard people talk about Olympic sports, and that wasn’t for running. This family is not willing to commit to that and I am realistic about my daughter. How many kids really have a chance for that? The cost and opportunity along with ability, wow, seems staggering. The goal of this family is much more complicated than a trophy or medal would ever provide.
Oh, and we don't even know who Blood ad Hasay are.
