Anyone else think this Diamond League format sucks backside?

Who is the genius who came up with this? The same event is NEVER contested by both sexes at the same meet. Women's 1500 = no men's 1500. What is this, Title IX on nandrolone? And that's just the beginning. Here are but a few of the "gems" of the Diamond League format: [b]No two meets have identical events on the schedule.[/b] It's like they went out of their way to achieve this, as if it's a GOOD thing, a selling point. No, it's not a selling point. It's a killing point. [b]The 3000 or 10000 "can be run" in place of the 5000.[/b] As of now, NO 3000s or 10000s are scheduled at any of these meets. Only 5000s, but if they want to change it to a 3000 or 10000, change away is the "policy." Granted, the difference between a 3000 versus a 5000 isn't all that great, but do they not know that training/scheduling/preping-in-general for a 10000 is drastically different than that of a 5000? [b]The same event is NEVER contested by both sexes at the same meet.[/b] This one bears repeating. So at the two U.S. stops (NYC and Eugene) there will be no men's 400. What's even more ridiculous is that there isn't even a women's 400 at the NYC meet. Why would they not want to showcase an event in which the U.S. has such depth, on both the men's and women's sides? This really sucks for the 400m specialists out there. On the men's side, when there is a 400 offered, there is almost always a 200 at the same meet. But when there is no 400, there usually isn't even a 200 either. At the meets where there is not a men's 400, the next closest distances are the 100 and 800. NO chance of competing at such meets. [b]They're already so convinced of this format, they've already set up tentative dates for the 2011 season.[/b] I realize that all events have never been offered at one meet, even when it was the GL, but the way they're going about this does not showcase the stars of our sport. Even if they just have one heat of the 400 or the 800 or whatever, I'd rather get to see eight of the stars of that event than none at all. Can you imagine going to a (US) football game where running backs were not part of the team at "certain" games, but were at others? They are presenting an inconsistent product with this format. Period. [b]Why can't they make more of these meets two-day events, such as the London meeting, if time is such an issue?[/b] If time is such a factor, why not have more two-day meets, then? Especially at stops outside Europe where they don't get many chances to see world class events like these as often. They could make the Doha and Shanghai meets a two-day, and I personally would love it if they made both U.S. stops two-day events if need be. The thing is, I don't even think it would be necessary, but if it were it would still be better than the hyperabbreviated format they have planned now. Anyway, there you have it. Thoughts?

That's crap, the GL, DL, and Eurocircuit (ask yourself why isn't there any in the States???) were meant as a cooperation between meets with a certain standard, mostly to promote their own meet and have a certain level of competition out there.

And your comparison with the NFL' Superbowl (or any other CLUB team sport) is wrong too, because its the Final of a regular competitionseason. The only thing on global level you can compare to that is the IAAF $$ WAF.

Beside that, this year is Europeans and that pretty big over here, as are the Asian Championships and the African Championshaps in their respective contents... Why don't go the best Americans to their equivalent continent championships? Probably a) zero media attention b) zero $$.

Initially everyone agreed to pay, but when the estimates came none could find the funds to pay for the IAAF Corps of Junketeers. You see every one of us is in an elected or political position. Even unpaid volunteers like certified officials have to answer to someone. The official press release stated the reason was taxes.

I don't see why the IAAF just doesn't cancel the World Cup and hold the IAAF Outdoors instead. There is definitely support for it. World Outdoors is a major success each year.

I keep hearing that will we will have 3 WCs soon. That will sure help the T&FN Tours fellas make ends meet.

What we need is an IAAF Outdoor WC this year an every 3 or 4 years when there is not a Summer Olympics. There should be no BYE year like 2010. This little DL meets are nice teasers in little quaint villes but only the majors make legends and our sport deserves a major world championships each and every year.

WORLD CROSS.

So there actually is a world cup held this year - with major modification though. There are only 4 teams (africa, america (north and south!), europe and australiasia (australia and oceana) with 2 starter in every event (exception: middle and long distance 3 per event, 2 best score)
the concerns i have about this new format are:
1) who decides who compete for these four teams and how. for europe it will be comparatively easy as they will nominate the first two of this years european championships, but what about your american team? i mean your us team is actually strong enough so it does not necessaraily need any south american taem member. will they send simply the best two athletes or what is the criteria? do you have a championship similar to europeans where you could pick the team?
2) who cares anyway about the world cup anymore? during the cold war we had the real highlights at the world cup. the athletes did also represent two different system so that there was more "heat" on the track and the fans really had something to cheer for (sovjet union and gdr vs. usa, frg and europe...)
and personally i really dont like the gl and i don think the dl will be a better format. the big meets simply destroy the smaller (but not worse) ones...

send no Americans- let them have a nationally televised Meet in the US at that time. Two folks out of the pool leaves a lot of athletes to invite. The sale of overseas TV(regular people follow athletics everywhere but here) can pay for the athlete part of meet and dictate how many to invite use domestic rights for overhead. No IAAF hotels and party limo tabs.

OK Hersh and Katz can bunk on the meets dime they earned it.

Let Yarisley Silva and Kelsie Hendry fight Howe for the Bronze behind Isi and Rogowska. I bet given a choice Murer whould rather be in NYC than spit.

Websites and magazines have lower hits and circulation during non-WC/Oly hiatus. It's not good for business for a sport to dilly dally for a year.
