One of the great things about the internet is that, while some people use it for "entertainment", most of us can speak our minds....unlike the outside world where there are repercussions for speaking out with what we actually believe.

5X's?? That's a bit of an overstatement. breaking the hs 2 mile record at age 17, Running the collegiate mile record, AJR and WJR after JUST turning 18, and breaking the unofficial indoor AJR in the 3k also barely 18, and then crushing rupps outdoor AJR in the 5k also at a younger ago, won an Ncaa champ as a frosh in the 1500...all at an age that would have put him in HS in like 48 states in the US. He hasn't had time to accomplish what Rupp has yet. So far he's off to a much better start, which says A LOT!

I saw German running today in Austin Texas on Town Lake (Trail in austin). He looked to be fine.

Overcoming name calling and what have you . . . I doubt Galen or Chris or any other decent runner out there has ever REALLY had to overcome anything said on these boards. Chris doesn't have to "overcome" anything said here. I'm sure YOUR voice is not playing through his mind.

Common misconception: Letsrun posters influence the runners they speak of.

I also agree with John Fendel and as a former athlete who can relate to what it takes to perform at your best and dealing with injury issues; the constant bad mouthing of athletes can make you mad at times. I suspect the profile of the average Letsrun poster is not the type of person you like to have a beer with.

But, unfortunately that is the nature of Letsrun; you have to weed through the racist rant, negativety and other crap to get to the good tracktalk. --It is what it is, it is the only game in town and there are no other options to Letsrun.

Btw, just about all runners read Letsrun, even the ones who say they don't and quite few post a well. With that said, if you care about people at all, interject some sense of respect and compassion for the trials and tribulations all runners go through.

John I agree with all you said 100%. Some of us can't post our names for political or various reasons. However, it used to be a man had to face another man when acting tough or whatever. These message boards give all the weasels, weak punks and totally nutcase boys a chance to hide and slither around. Also alot of these buys are just looking for everything they can talk crap about. Like little 12 yr old nut cases. Wasn't like that years ago.....but look where this entire population of this country is going. Sad is all I can say.

If that's the case, and I tend to agree, then what is Fendel's problem? The guy needs to grow some gonads. He still hasn't answered my question....where was he the past three years, when every third post knocked something...anything...about the way Rupp ran, the way Rupp looked, the way Rupp was coached....yada, yada? Where were you Fendel, if you are honest about it and really give a damn about negative posts. The fact is, posters have a lot more legitimacy in commenting about all of German's no-shows and dnf's, than they ever did about Rupp. Fact is fact, and end of thread.

Where on German's list of priorities do you think you would find preserving four years of indoor track eligibility? If he runs three years of outdoor track it will be a huge gift to Dave Smith and OSU.

I am one of the top NCAA distance guys indoor this year. I don't know about others but all this Derrick is out and German is done is bull. As I start my first phase for outdoor I think just the opposite. I am shaken in my boots. I am thinking WHAT are these two up to! They both know exactly what is out there. They both know they can come out and spank us all. As I flow a long run easy today I feel one or both of them are on a mission and I know they will be on the line sooner or later. Hope they are both healthy....got a feeling they are!

He ran approximately 12 seconds faster than Rupp did in his high school race IN EUROPE against open runners.

I think Rupp didn't win his first NCAA title until a senior. I'm a big Rupp fan, but how can you not see how talented Fernandez is? He probably won't stay healthy through college, but wait until he gets a little older and stronger. Tegenkamp had a lot of injuries in college and look where he is.
