You have obviously never been on a championship-caliber team. Anyone who trains day in and day out with a group of athletes with a single mission of achieving a team or relay championship and accomplishes that mission knows the sensation it evokes.

Contributing to the Team title in the Mile and DMR is plenty for her.
Seriously, how is a triple her freshman year of indoor track going to affect her 6 years from now when she's an Olympian?
A triple could cause her to get injured and never achieve her potential years from now...
Anyway, anyone notice how Hasay is the only true freshman in either the mile or 3k? Pretty impressive.
wait a minute. So she is going to run what: Day 1, 5:10 PM- a prelim for the mile which she should be able to run relatively conservatively as she is one of the best in the field (ranked 3 of 17)
9:20 PM- at most the 1600m leg of the DMR which she will undoubtedly run hard as Oregon is ranked #1.
Day 2 she is going to run the mile finals at 6:25 PM(assuming she does make it through) and 3000 meters at 8:10 PM which is where she is ranked lowest- 10 of 17 but looks like she and Blood both have a great shot to score some big points here, especially as the team is nearing the end of the meet.
I fail to understand what the big deal is and why Oregon is "selfish" for having one of their top runners run in multiple events- which she seems more than capable of doing- in an attempt to place well at a national championship? Are you kidding me? This is excellent planning and coaching.
On a side note...where is Allie McLoughlin?
Let's face it: if Hasay was running only one event, people here would savage Vin for wasting her talent. In fact, in another thread, there is just that criticism of Vin for running Wheating in only one event. I didn't think it was a good idea for Rupp's future to triple last year and I don't think this is a good idea for Hasay, but Rupp made it through and did what was most important to him last year, winning multiple titles and leading Oregon to another team title and Hasay may get that experience. In the end, if the team title is out of reach or she's feeling bad, she'll drop her last event.
1) we have NO IDEA whether blood or hasay will run the dmr (i think its EXTREMELY unlikely blood will run it)... declarations only include the runners who were on the qualifying relay, not who they're planning on running at the actual meet
2) they always have the option of scratching from the 3k. i think they'll only do it if the team really needs the points and the athletes feel up to it. they could very well have the title sewn up by then
I also think it's funny how many people believe that running 4 races over a span of 2 days is absolutely DETRIMENTAL to her overall development as an elite runner and that this meet will probably destroy her future. Are you people serious? Are you all crazy?
Assuming the following- a 4:45 mile prelim, a 4:35 mile anchor (assuming she runs the DMR and runs the anchor leg), a 4:40 mile in the finals, and a 9:10 3k..this would be a grand total of 23:10 of racing over a 2 day span. an average of 11:35 per day.
I think I would rather race 11:35 2 days in a row than do some of my workouts.
You're right, we should try to put a petition out to stop this abuse! The poor girl has to run 23 minutes total at the NCAA championships to try to help her team out! What is the world coming to??

Lananna does not "make" or "force" any athlete to do anything.
Usually he has to be talked into letting them triple etc.
Additionally, I wonder how many of us in high school or college ever regretted tripling or quadrupling, uhm, like NONE of us.
And, she may or may not run all those races.
And, I'll just bet you that Vin has agreed on some trade offs with her (and others of his athletes) in order to run all those races...some reduction in work load before and after the meet, for instance.
Lastly, if you ever spent some time around Lananna you would realize he is not selfish.
Is he charged with the stewardship of a large group of athletes?
Yes.
Does he sometimes have to make touch choices of who to run, who not to run, changing athletes training approaches, sitting some athletes until they get their academics or personal challenges back in order. Yep.
I don't even the coach of any large program, they have a lot of lives and athletes to juggle and manage.
Sometimes they gotta be like a loving uncle, and other times they have to be the tough cop.
I think one can say that Lananna's leadership pretty well trumps the opinion of LR board losers.
