I guess reading comprehension is not one of your strong points, eh? This issue I was referring to was that of awarding the Games to a city that historically would be the warmest site ever for the Winter Games. Of course it was raining! Any amateur meteorologist could have predicted that. Vancouver/BC/Canada applied for these Games knowing the weather would be a major issue. The stupid IOC granted them the Games. They all share the blame for this fiasco.

Whistler/Blackcomb, where the alpine events were held, is one of the top ski resorts in North America. Of course you can get warm weather, but you don't "expect" warm weather and lack of snow in mid-February. Similar for Cypress where the other ski events were held. You generally expect favourable weather this time of year (snow, not rain).
Sometimes, though, shit happens.
What's the big deal, though? Didn't the events all happen?
There have been significant weather delays in many (perhaps most) past winter Games.

Dancing Stripper like Mounties? Moose hats for all? Giant Inflated BEAVERS??? Giant Inflated Mounties, etc. etc. on and on.
It looked like someone crossed the border into Canada, stopped at the first tourist info gift shop, drove to the arena and the giant barfed GIANT inflated souvenirs and Canada CLICHES.
Thankfully, the athletes bucked up under the crap conditions and crap organizing and made the competition's interesting and exciting.
But, Canada's motto can now be "We Mean Well, but Somehow We Just Can Never Get It Right.

I am not sure what your point is, but you can point out the good and bad with every large event and I guess if you are a half-empty type of person, you are only going to see the bad. Even with the few problems, Canada did a good job. I thoroughly enjoyed these Winter Olympics and I'm obviously not alone...these were the highest rates Winter Olympics in history. If the closing ceremony was corny, there were long lines, bad food, inflated cost, etc., mention those things, but you don't have to be mean and extreme using caps and saying something you obviously have no facts to support, unless you have attended every Winter Olympics since 1928.
To the rest of the world, other than the normal totally jingoistic, spiteful citizens of the US, (who believe anything other than American is rubbish) the Winter Games were an outstanding success and the Canadians are to be congratulated for staging one of the most enjoyable Winter Olympics ever.
They are also to be congratulated for the success of their sportsmen and women.

Yes, you do! The average maximum temp for Whistler on Feb. 24 (the middle of the Games) is 38 F!! Anyone can look this up. Guess what, Pete? That's rain weather, not snow weather. Vancouver/BC/Canada/IOC and anyone else involved in placing the Games there is simply stupid.

thats the average MAXIMUM VALLEY temperature. the average maximum alpine temperatures is -5 or 23F, perfect for alpine skiing. this has been the warmest winter on record for the Vancouver area and being a vancouverite i can say that I have never seen the local mountains with so little snow in February. Hell I did the grouse grind, a hike up local mountain and normally a summer activity, yesterday and didn't hit snow until the top of the mountain. that's completely unheard of here in February.

I am very happy that the Olympics weren't perfect. This whole production gets more and more uptight each time. They lightened up, Canadian-style, and I'm glad they did.

I thought the games were well done and the competition outstanding.
What sucked in most American's eyes was the horrendous coverage by NBC.
Don't blame Canada for the miserable, pathetic handling of only what THEY (NBC) felt were the key stories...like sled dogs and Michael Phelps interviews (yelch!) and horrible cartoons and the ENDLESS freaking commercials.
Canada should be proud as the games felt extremely welcoming. What a great freaking country! The US should start taking notes on how to treat people and how to act.

Actually Canada has a lot to be proud of. Not a lot of other countries that would have honored their aboriginal relations like they did in the opening ceremonies, maybe you missed that first hour....too busy being an "athlete".

Why were the closing ceremonies so jingoistic? I have never seen an Olympic ceremony that focused so much on how great the host country is. It is like they have a giant inferiority complex and have to be like: "Hey look at us we are really great!" It verged on the inappropriate as it felt like a long infomerical. Can you imagine the reaction if the US had used the ceremonies to show off like that? It is meant to be about the world coming together not about the host nation.
Both the opening and closing ceremonies were a huge disappointment. To the guy who was impressed by how they acknowledged their native people -- did you see that half of the natives were actually white people dressed up in the equivalent of black face? Disgraceful.
