This is off the topic, but the Ritz P.R. comments reminded me of Jorge Torres running the 800m in 1:50 at Mt. Sac a couple of years ago. Does Jorge have superior raw speed to Ritz?

When will Ritz race again? Will he run a 10 this year?
I agree with the idea of a 4000m showdown. That would be fantastic. My pick would be Ritz for sure.
A lot of you guys posting on this thread are tools. Get off of Ritz's jock. He hasn't even broken 7:50 in his career, hasn't raced a 3k in 2 years and you believe he's in shape to better the collegiate record. Yes, he's a great runner, but lets at least let him do his first race of the season before we say he's in 7:44 shape or faster.
Robison would beat both of them at 3k...
I actually don't know that, but I figured since we are drooling all over Willis and Ritz at the moment (until Cragg runs a 7:43 on Saturday... I don't know that either), I want to remind everyone that there are many runners out there with the potential to beat both of them at many distances.
Willis is in phenomenal shape. I hate to say things like this... but the fact is that he's the man in track. Robison won't beat him... Ritz is perhaps the only one with a shot.
I think Ritz is better off staying on the 'Ritz vs Webb' threads.
Ritz just couldn't handle Willis's 50 sec kicks.
Should be a very intresting race. You have one guy who has much more raw speed. And one guy who has much more raw stammina. I would have to give this race to Will's seeing as he is a very very good runner. And is near his peak at this point. But Ritzhine is a very very tuff kid, and it would not be out of the ballpark for hem to use his stammina to grind away Wills. I think that if the pace is hard, and the race is close. Rizhine will win, since haveing more stammina he would have the abilty to keep a faster pace longer with a little more left to finsh. But if the pace is not cracking, Wills should end up getting this one. In anycase it is a very good and tight race.
If they end up running 400s at 62sec pace there is not going to be any 50sec laps.
Come again? Sol, you said "If they end up running 400s at 62sec pace there is not going to be any 50sec laps"
Are you really saying that if they run 3 laps at 4.08 pace that they wont rip the track up on the final lap? What medication are you on?
If the race is taken out at 56-57 for the first half then it may be interesting to see who gets it.
Dave
Think he's talking about a 3000m race. 62's equal 7:45 pace.
Problem for Ritz is - he will be forced to lead the whole way (breaking the wind) and then somehow pull away from a 7:44/3:36 mega kicker. I don't like his chances.
This is true...one reason why, in a race between a kicking-type runner and a stamina-type runner of approximately equal talent, the kicker will usually win. The kicker can dictate the race - he does not need to run fast, and can kick to win. Or, if the stamina runner takes it out the kicker can sit tight and be pulled along, forcing the stamina runner to waste energy leading, and blowing past the tired stamina runner at the end. The only way the stamina guy will win is if the race is long enough for his superior stamina to wear down the kicker to the point he drops off the pace or is worn down too much to effectively kick. The way I see it, 3 k is short enough for Willis to beat Ritz, but 5 k too long.
**Note to self.**
Read entire thread before posting a reply. This way you can avoid looking stupid and also will nothing to apologise for.
**stop.**
It doesn't really matter who would win between Willis and Ritz, fact is Cragg is going to roll on both of them whenever the three of them meet!
people have been saying that and saying that...
I don't know why people are downgrading Willis' ability at the 5000. I don't know if he can mentally hang in there but he has the fitness to run 13:20.
Weight to height ratio starts to get important in the distance events.
I heard willis was about 70kg. What is this Ritz's weight?
I think Willis is potentially quicker at 800m than his PB suggests and what most people think.
1:45 when trained? (remember 2x 50sec 400m equals 1:40 800m)
Ritz, Willis, Robison, Jack Mehoff, doesn't matter, i have a feeling that there is someone else out there, or someones else out there who will reduce them to the 6-8 pt. range.
How much is 70 kg?
Use pounds please.
willis weighs about 170lb.
