What about Trey Hardee's coach? A WC gold is pretty nice. Especially in a sport where you must be good at 10 different events.
I know I'm going to get ripped apart for this but what about Mark Wetmore? An NCAA title, American Championship title, a few NCAA records, and an American Record.
I'm still leaning towards Hardee's coach though.
You start with enough athletes and enough of a budget and it's hard not to have a few stick...but this year he came up empty at Worlds...so I wonder...He's good though.
For high ratio of success/athlete, I gotta give props to Clyde and Cook (again). Talk about consistency.
And with Cook look how well two of his athletes did after they parted ways...
We should appreciate Clyde, Cook, AsSal, Larsen, Vigil, Mahon for sure. Kersee and Smith brought home the most medals this year.

But Clyde's not even close to coach of the year in the US, but somebody who won NOTHING is?
US sprinters and hurdlers won 12 medals in Berlin, including 5 gold, not counting relays. The 3 "distance" medals won were won by middle distance people: Long distance runners won NOTHING as usual. If you're going to make believe that US distance runners even matter internationally, there's only one distance runner of any kind good enough to win any WC/Olympic event, and you know who he is and who his coach is.
How much did Nike pay off USATF THIS TIME?

How about the Wisconsin boys?
Schumacher had Teg at 12:58, right behind Ritz. Also went 1-2-3 at US Champs in the 5k.
I mean the guy has coached
Solinksy: 3:37, 7:36, 13:12, 2nd Indoor Champs 3k, 2nd Outdoor Champs 5k
Teg: 3:34, 3:56, 7:34, 8:07, 12:58, USA Outdoor Champs 1st
Jager: 3:54 miler and only 13:22 this year but 2nd Outdoor Champs, 8th 2008 Junior World Champs
Bairu: Canadian 10k Champ, Canadian 5k Track Champ

I wouldn't point to "Schumacher's kids" as giving Schumacher the nod over AlSal, yet I also wouldn't point to AlSal's cult as giving the nod over Schumacher. Both are pretty equal, contrary to the dipshit saying that AlSal has coached more sub-13 runners than every other US coach combined.
