Common, anyone who knows running, knows Josh is a self promoter. It is how he makes a living. He will put a spin on anything to make it look as good as possible.

i will accept that he SQUEAKS (and i mean barely squeaks) under 2:14 and claims a 2:13

but i do not respect nor accept someone who runs a 64:02 and claims to have run a 63! that is either a 60/62 second blatant LIE anyway you look at it.

Ryan Hall needs disassociate himself with this false talent... the delusion is infecting him. Seriously? Making excuses for losing NY? C'mon! That's straight from the Cox playbook!

This is fairly common insecure behavior. We all know someone who believes they "could have" run slightly faster than they did, and over time they forget the facts and PRESTO - 1:04:02 official becomes 1:04:00 chip becomes 1:03-high "on my watch" becomes 1:03 on my bio.

I certainly don't condone it, but why do 5% of the wannabe population do this? (wannabe being relative to each person's peers, of course). Maybe I'M the insecure one, but it pissed me off when my rival claims a faster PR when it's from a BS course and mine is from a legit one - for both 5k and 10k. Grrr....

my wife won the vegas half. she got a finishers medal for the effort. perhaps she should start bringing photos to sign, then she can make the real COX dollars. he is a sad sad person who was given good looks and the ability to believe in imaginary people and imaginary greatness.

You guys are, effectively, giving Cox MORE publicity by piling on. The guy had 1:03:59.99 on his watch? Who cares, seriously? You think the average Joe really knows the difference between a 1:03 and a 1:04 anyway or even cares? Yes, it's disingenuous, ESPECIALLY because it was a downhill course to begin with, but, again, why does it matter, unless he's stealing from you personally somehow? You guys are comparing him to Karnazes. He's pumping up his bio, not exploiting some unaware, mediocre jogging community.

By the way, John Sinclair was a cool dude. Still has the 5000 (and 10,000?) records at Colorado State I believe. Made a living on the roads back before the African tidal wave.

DUDE. are you kidding me?!? It DOES matter when someone claims to have run faster than they have. It's a lie. He's a PRETENDER. True, most people don't care because they are too ignorant to know the difference between a 63 & a 64, and he's relying on that. But there is a HUGE difference at that level. It's a little detail that I'm sure he didn't think anyone would notice, but someone did and has exposed it.

Cox just straightened things out on his Twitter account. He said he had 1:03:58 on his watch. Sounds legit to me.

so on his twitter account, he writes that he was going off what was published in the paper? funny that his watch matches what the newspaper reported. so in other words, he reported his time to the newspaper based on his watch, then claimed that as his PR? damn he's good!!!

I, and a lot of other Christians, would appreciate you not labeling it as a "Christian" thing. I do understand that Josh's representation of his PR's may be faulty but to label this as a "Christian" thing is insulting and quite frankly ignorant. Considering the recent thread about the average 5k time for LRC posters, I could suggest that lying and distributing misinformation about PR's is an "LRC thing" but I wouldn't dare label everyone in this forum as such. Being tempted to embellish PR's is a HUMAN thing. And I'm sure Cox would be one of the first to admit he's human, just like you and every other runner, and therefore tempted to embellish. I'm a Josh Cox fan and a Christian. And I also agree with your sentiments concerning his race times. He needs to adjust them and if I were he, I'd do exactly as you suggested and own up to a shortcoming and a setback. Excuses won't get you any where. Concerning Hall, why drag him in? Yes, I know he trains with Cox and they are both Christians but don't lump them together outside of that. This is a thread about Cox. Maybe if we laid off Hall, let him train, and continue to develop without the pressure, he and the rest of our young marathoners (Ritzenhein, Torres, Hall) will fulfill their potential. Seems to me that Meb was out of the spotlight, unheralded, and written off.... He's also 34(?) Our young guys aren't there yet. Back off and quit with all the pressure. If they've got the weight of the country (hmmmmm... Paula Radcliffe comes to mind) on them, of course the propensity to find excuses when "failure" occurs is more likely. Not excusable but it's going to happen!

Some people just don't remember their PRs well. I know someone, his PR was 14:28 for a 5k. He ran 14:23 one race. He was super excited because he thought his original PR was 14:40. I had to specifically look up the race results and show it to him to prove it. He also doesn't know any of his high school PRs, this guy is a sophomore in college, how could you forget so easily?

I always go with my watch. I assume the 50k had proper timers and such.

I'm always curious about all the hate for Josh Cox. He's pretty and makes a lot of his endorsements and such as a running model. So what? Wouldn't you rather a 213 marathoner be on the cover of joggers world than some random model? Wouldn't you rather him cover a marathon on tv than the typical idiots who cover the races? At least he knows what the important points are. Are you upset because he attacked a soft 50k record? Good job. Now its slightly less soft.

Are you jealous? Of 1) that he's faster than you? 2) that your girlfriend wants him? or 3) that he can make a living at a sport that you cannot?

I never understood why everyone thought he was the next goldenboy, and his running is 2nd tier in the US. But not third tier and not any reason to attack him.

Is he a good self promoter? Yes, absolutely. Otherwise he'd have to work full time at some random job and would not be able to overtrain himself to the point of under performing.

Well, he did just get the 50k record. He's won a marathon in the last year. Not a 10th at chicago, though, so in a sense you are right. But so what?If runners don't self promote, their sponsors drop them. Then what?

It's not that unusual for times to change on coolrunning. Race directors and timing companies often post the initial results and then go back and make corrections a few days later. You will noticed this a lot when comparing times listed on coolrunning to other result sites such as marathonguide.

I guarantee that none of the people bitching have come close to Josh's times. Lose the jealousy and get a life.

For those of you making a big deal over the two second discrepancy, Josh posted on his Facebook page, he thought it was 1:03:58 because that was the time listed in the SD Union Tribune as the official race result. When he recently found out it was actually 1:04:00 he corrected the information and apologized to all his detractors who called him a liar. That is a class act. He's a good guy, tries hard and has more talent than 99 percent of us. Best of luck to him.

The thing about Josh is that he is always running insane workouts. He is faster than even Bekele in practice. If the 4 by 3200 was an Olympic event, he would be a medal contender.
