Obama to attend Olymic vote, Chicago's chances improve

You are NUTS! Olympic games do wonders for the host country. I understand you hate Chicago, but it would give an economic boost to many North American companies. Ask local businesses what the Olympic games could do for them. Ask China what it did for them. They had to build every facility that was used during the Olympics and still came out in the black

Why were there no Olympics in the USA between 1932 and 1984? Well, actually there were... at least twice in the Winter. But as far as the Summer Games were concerned, there was a pretty obvious reason that everyone but one wasn't in the USA

1936 - They'd just been here in 1932

1940, 1944 - There weren't any

1948 - Britain took a beating in the war, give 'em to London

1952 - Finland had a great running tradition but had never hosted before

1956 - First time in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia

1960 - Italy had never hosted

1964 - First time in Asia, Tokyo

1968 - First time in Latin America, Mexico

If this happens in Chicago, it'll happen seven years from now. There will be a whole new cast of characters by then.

Did any US cities bid for any of those Games? That would be a factor as well.

US cities have done quite well with Olympic Games. Atlanta made money. Not a lot in terms of venues were left mainly because so many venues had already been built.

Same for Salt Lake City.

In both cases the organizing committee ended up with a profit.

Then there would be the increase in funding to athletes if the Games come to the US. USOC will be able to negotiate more lucrative contracts; that means more money for athletes like runners.

You will have to trust that I know a bit about USOC athlete funding.

There will be headaches, but they never end up being as bad as people think they will be.

Obi and his bow-legged spouse are going to spread thick some of our borrowed economic stimulus money around and win the vote.

Atlanta was a huge disaster. The organizers blew the security and a White Terrorist was able to murder and ruin the games. After that, the biggest insult of all to Track, Field, Running, Vaulting, Throwing, Walking, etc athletes, Atlanta demolished the track and field stadium.

Salt Lake was another huge disaster. It was the most corrupt games in history. Then the racists punished onlt the African IOC members, and let the White nations pull the white card.

Chicago has no venues, no money, and no sponsors. Businesses know that Chicago sucks as a sports town and don't want to throw away money. Chicago better lose else the taxpayers in Chicago will get zapped for decades with a losing boondoggle.

Atlanta is also remembered by the international community as being an organisational shambles.

It’s intriguing that the American city bidding to stage the Games is also the city with the highest crime rate.

A fortune there to be made by the local criminal fraternity (and those in City Hall) with the opportunities for extortion and corruption on a project that must be ready at a specific date - no matter what the cost.

One assumes the Olympic venue would be built some distance from this particular area of Chicago.

My friend teaches at the new charter school that that kid attended (and some charged in the attack are from the same school: arne duncan's brilliant idea ain't what it's cracked up to be, with large class sizes of high thirties, contra their claims of 25 and very inexperienced teachers).

But on topic, the repos will criticize Obama for literally anything that he does, including supporting the USA in its Olympic bid.

It worked for Tony Blair and this is the U.S.'s only shot.

There are several reasons Obama should go & lobby for the Olympics.

1. He is losing on health care, Afghanistan and ACORN. Time to get out of town for a while.

2. All he is good at is campaigning and that is exactly what this is. He is proving he can't lead a country.

3. Chance to be in front of new TV cameras. He's been on every other one except FOX and home shopping network.

we don't need no olympic games. Mr. Obama needs to figure other stuff out and not worry about Chicago getting the Games
