mankato has three good guys up front i believe (Krasja, Makoya, Schmidt), then nothing of note

augustana was way over rated last year, they finished 10th at the regional after coming in ranked 5th

wayne state lost two guys who ran steeple at nationals this year (preston, schneider), and i've never heard of anyone else on their team

NM-Highlands= PURCHASED TEAM WHO ARE BIG TIME CHOKERS. Got soundly whomped by the CU-Springs guys last year (who were unranked I might add). I wouldn't count them out of the running in the North Central. Don't know how well Metro will do now that Julian is gone, who knows how much will change there? Mankato could do well also.

What I think in amazing is how most people are placing ACU out of any podium position. Even in freezing conditions last year they still got 4th with their guys skiing through the snow. Based on their outdoor season they got one the best 1,2,3 punches coming back (outside of Adams of course). Yes, they graduated 2 of their internationals and a good US kid transferred. That is a ton of scholarship money coming back into the program. Does everyone think Burroughs won’t have a solid #4 & #5 reporting to campus next week? I predict he’s got a couple aces up his sleeve.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt DII nationals in Indiana this year? Indiana has very similar weather (if not colder) then Pensylvania. I keep on hearing about these recruits that Burroughs has landed but can't see anything on the ACU website, dyestat recruiting page, or other wise that suggests these big time recruits.

well, it can be really cold in Indiana at this time or it can be pretty moderate, it really just depends on the year.

to the dude who had Drury over Southern Indiana - get real, look at who Southern is returning and then look at Drury.

No Adams team would have ever won D1's, not even the perfect score team of '92. Who cares who they beat along the year it just wouldn't have happened.

In response to the comment about NM Highlands and The North Central Region results last year. The ranking or non-ranking of UCCS was a bit misleading. UCCS had actually finished closely behind Metro State and NM Highlands at their conference meet two weeks before over 8k and that was without one of the guys who scored in UCCS's top five at regionals. Not sure why they weren't ranked in the top 10 going into the regional meet, but they finished up 17th at nationals.

However, rankings don't mean much anyway, just the results.

It's now on to 2009 and new season.

For argument's sake, the mid-late 80s Adams squad had guys like Rick Robirds and Craig Dickson who boasted PRs of 28:23 and 13:48 respectively. And they were deep teams. For argument's sake, let's go back to the Arizona squad that finished highly from 1985-1987. The top runners of that team, guys like Matt Giusto, Aaron Ramirez, and Chris Morgan all boasted PRs of 13:45, 28:43, and 29:01, respectively. Adams would've been competitive in any era, but especially then. Your assertion is just as unprovable as my own.

coach burrough is overrated and kicked off most kenyans there! will he bring some others who knows? but not even the fastest kids in texas can bring acu to the standard that the hood's had it..

to all the discussion about d2 compared to d1. sure d1 has more depth but up front i think the competition is comparable. i'll let the results speak for themselves...

Amos Sang who didn't run at the xc ncaa's cause of a stress fracture would 5 months later win the penn relays 10k and another month later scored in both the 5 & 10 at ncaa's. Certainly a canadate for come back of the year in d2. Either Sang is the most talented athlete in d2 or Burroughs is a brillant coach (or likely perhaps a combination of the two)

It's true about the Kenyans though. If you don't fail in line, your scholarship is reduced or you're booted out. How many of us would have the balls to kick off the 2008 10k & steeple national champion (female)? This is a fresh respective for ACU.

ACU also got 2nd in the penn relays 10k as well......

We need a recruiting report on some of these top schools. Any more news on Who has or rumored to have signed for Western, Alaska, Adams, Chico....

western- irish guy around 9:10 steeple and a CO kid with fast middle d times

alaska- probly more kenyans

adams- im sure they got at least one good transfer plus a bunch of new talent .............including another euro

chico- at least got a sub 9:00 two miler

mines- a 9:20 guy

but im gonna guess most of the new recruits that will eventually be the top of d2 will be no names who ran around 10:00 and 4:30 and are just getting serious about running and are just maturing now too. so this means its all about the coaching and dedication of these guys to make the step to the next level
