I've made a few big jumps over the last few years, but it's nothing that abnormal. I would go through a "rest" week in december and then start off with 125 mile weeks to jump straight back into things. usually the first week or so i'm extremely sore, but I just kinda force my legs to adjust over time.

I just did a 56 mile week last week, on singles, (a high for me, I usually run 40-50 miles) with 2 threshold workouts (a 5x800m hill w/hill rec, and 3 mile tempo run), and a long run of 90 minutes. I ran most of those miles at around 8:00-30 pace with my threshold workouts at 6:50-7:00 pace. I'm training for the 2 mile in track and want to up my mileage so that I'm consistently running 70 miles a week. I've got 6 weeks to do this, can I really start running 70 miles a week next week?? I can only run my mileage on asphalt or treadmill. What would a week look like, considering I only did 4 today because of some soreness??

It all depends on the type of runner you are and what your strenghts and weaknesses are. I'm a high school junior running over 70 mile weeks with absolutely no problem. Previously my highest mile week was about 74 during the summer but before that my highest week was 35. I say that if you are a strong runner who isn't injury prone you shouldn't have trouble making big jumps.
I've always gone by feel, and this has always meant drastic increases after layoffs. Actually, this also includes when I started training for running in the first place in high school, where I went ...0,0,0,62,63,63,63, etc. Nowadays, I cross country ski in the winter and only jog maybe less than 10 mpw, but when ski season ends, I pretty much go immediately from 2 hrs a day of skiing to 2 hr a day of running. So that would be something like <10, <10, 90 (ave. pace slower), 90, 100 (starting to get my legs), 105, etc.
yeah i agree with a couple of the posters. the one guy who said even if u go right back into it ur legs will be sore for a while(for me about 10 days or so). i used to go up and down like crazy in the summer- my prob used to be a lot that if i started a week with like 2-3 low days i was always like eh screw it ill just wait till next week. Obv this can lead to mileage of like 10,90,40,70,30,80 etc - eventually i became more consistent somewhat.
also obv if u run high mileage on grass u can go up so much faster and be less sore(for me at least).
My biggest jump was:
13 (ran it on a Monday then got the flu and took fest of week off).
Then went 131 the next week!
Than is an increase of 907.7%, which is 897.7% too much according to some sources!
