What do his competitors think of his showboating? Hopefully they think it sucks ass and they want to destroy him because of it! What else would they think? Of course they don't like it. Who cares? Whether they like it or not they still have to go out and run faster than him. Best of luck to them.

Kiprop is actually winning like this. Its amazing because unlike bolt, he gives his opponents an absurd amount of time to still beat him while he's celebrating. In his most recent 1500m win, he is celebrating with 95meters to go, while STILL IN SECOND PLACE! that's hilarious...if no one can beat him like that, the its funny.

All runners and sprinters should run through the tape, cause they don't who's lurking behind or what else could happen. Somebody will teach those who showboat too early a lesson not to do it prematurely or anymore.

I think that most people who are honest will tell you that Africans are the most polite, well-mannered people they've ever met (this is where the lispy-voiced liberals jump in and say, "You can't stereotype like that!")

I can't believe most people think hes being cocky! As some people have pointed out previously, he is not making any sort of gesture proclaiming his dominance. If you pay attention to what hes doing, you would notice that he is in fact asking God to be with him in that last 100m and carry him through it. I don't know about anyone else, but to me that is very humbling. It actually seems like hes asking for help that last 100m, and is a testament to the guys hes racing against. Kiprop is not at all cocky, open your eyes and try and understand whats going on before you through around accusations...ESPECIALLY ROJO AND WEJO, YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED TO PUT SOMETHING LIKE THAT UP ON YOUR FRONT PAGE WITHOUT MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL!!!
It takes all kinds to make a sport exciting. Maybe an athlete doing something other than humbly crossing the line will generate discussion.
I say let him go- and you have every right to be critical of him (I do respect your opinion).

Are you kidding? Wagging your finger in a number one salute while in second place with 100m to go is not asking God to be with him. And why doesn't anyone else do that? Why should Wejo and Rojo be embarrassed to put up this thread on the front page? Its clearly open to debate.
Dont get me wrong, I dont think Kiprop is a terrible person for showboating, but lets call a spade a spade and quit defending his poor sportsmanship.

Well, whatever Kiprop did, it worked. We're on this message board talking about it so his celebrating did what it was intended to do: generate attention! Those who didn't like his celebration are paying dues to it by posting about it. Controversy is good for sports.

You are right that most African runners are extremely polite and reserved.
You are an idiot to suggest that African runners are "cousins" of African-Americans, who are in the vast majority of west African descent (most African long-distance runners are, of course, from east Africa).
There are over 40 nations and a billion people in Africa, and more human genetic diversity within the continent than in the rest of the world combined. Aside from skin color and hair texture, Kenyan runners have no more in common with people descended from abducted west African slaves than Portuguese winemakers do with Irish potato farmers.
