The DOC is a quack

Personally, I don't care if anyone thinks "The Doc" is qualified to coach or not. He's certainly far more qualified than I am.

But Doc, it would be nice if you would stop putting that lap2go link at the end of every single message of yours. Whatever you call it, it's advertising. Besides, when you do it I never know if you're posting because you actually want to make some point or you're just making the point in order to get a subtle advertisement in.

I mean could talk about track and field all day long and put a link at the end of my messages for my brand new porn site (no I don't have one, sorry). It's not that different just because it doesn't have to do with running. Advertising is advertising.

But the "qualifications" thing, well Curious, the fact that The Doc does not having some sort of certificate or years of track coaching leaves him in excellent company. Davis will either succeed or fail as a coach on his own, regardless of what you "reveal" about him. Time to give him a break on that, don't you think?

I have only observed Coach Davis for about a year now. I am a middle-aged average ability recreational runner who races regularly in San Diego. Coach Davis has been coaching the North County workout for the San Diego Track Club for two years now (which is not a position that you take because the pay is so good). He has stated this in at least two of his posts in reponse to your childish insults and criticism of his efforts to build a career as a coach. His training group is mostly made up of athletes like me, except for a couple of people who have some real ability. He treats all of the athletes with dignity and genuine interest in our progress as runners. I am a lifelong track fan, I was a college athlete and I have children in athletics. I have interacted with many coaches across the entire spectrum of ability from bad to great. My observation of Coach Davis is that he is already a good young coach, both technically and in his people skills, who is now committed to building a coaching career. I did not know him when he was an elite athlete and I cannot speak to his maturity then. We all grow up at our own pace. As someone who has seen him performing as a coach for over a year I would characterize him as a good coach and a very nice young man. He apparently has matured and learned from his experiences while, sadly, Curious has not. Someone else suggested that if Curious has a personal grievance with Coach Davis that he contact Coach Davis directly and take it off this board. Coach Davis is not hiding behind a pseudonym like Curious. Coach Davis has given Curious far more of a response than is deserved. I second the thought that Curious should take it up with Coach Davis or give it up. It contributes nothing to this board except the impression of anger and envy at someone else's accomplishments.

You are all a bunch of morons who need a life. Many professional athletes now have online coaching websites. Marc is not the first and will not be the last. Marc is building his coaching resume; remember the guy just retired from a professional running career, less than 2 years ago. He jumped right into coaching for the San Diego Track Club and the athletes there love him and praise him for not only his well organzied, motivating practices but his ability to work with local elites and beginners alike. If any of you really knew him NOW, you would find out that his desire to coach is very sincere. He loves the sport and wants to help upcoming athletes with the experiences and knowledge that he has gained through the years. A coach has to start somewhere.

There is obviously some sort of individual malicous intent (Erik Mack/Curious) to destroy the one thing that Marc enjoys to do. He is NOT painted into a corner and has many opportunities to do other things with his life; but he chooses to coach (and it's certainly not the money that is motivating that decsion). Keep your ridiculous suggestions and opinions to yourselves. Anytime that Marc has posted on this board it has always been positive and informative. He will take his knowledge and opinions elsewhere because this board can not obviously appreciate any of it.

Marc will prove himself as a coach, just as he did as an athlete.

This is perhaps the most petty thread to have evolved on the boards (and that is really saying something). Unbelievable. Get an effing life, and get over however it is Davis hurt you. Stop this BS charade.

Regarding your all-encompassing credential policing, one pays another for what they are going to do, not for what they have done. Credentials are only indicators of this potential value. So, instead of arrogantly assuming everyone does not have your heightened level of prudence, you would purpose would be better served if you let Davis seal his own fate (if he sucks so much).

You should not be posting on sites like this if you are running Hood to Coast this year; you should be spending your time reading maps and practicing your chugging for the post race fest ;)

I had the chance to meet Marc Davis back in 1995 at the University of Oregon track camp. The guy was very cool, very motivational and answered all of our questions that us youngsters had. As for Erik Mack, I know two people who were on his Air Force team and claimed the guy was a self centered jackass who thought he was God. Too bad Goucher handed you your head not only in high school, but in college as well. You seemed to be jealous of him as well back in the day. It must be a thing for guys that beat you. I can see why you would question Marc's credentials, and his more frequent posting practices, because I did the very same thing. Upon first impression it seemed a little shady to me, but upon further thought I changed my opinion. Running and training is something that Marc has been eating and drinking for his entire adult life. It is his vocation. He probably knows running better than anything besides maybe video games, and possibly women. ;) Why shouldn't he be able to make a living off his vocation? To be perfectly honest I though when he started rearing his guyly head again --playing-- he was goint to make a come back on the competitive side of the sport. I was hoping he was, but coaching is cool as well. It's not as if I'm some sort of ultimate fan whose licking his nuts, I just don't like seeing people drift away from the sport and never hearing from them again. While he will be making some income off the venture he is giving back to the sport. I don't think that is dishonorable. He's trying to help people, not hur them, and it's an outlet for his enthusiasm for running, and competitiveness. I've never met him, but he seems like he's a pretty good people person, and in my opinion may do a great job.

I seem to recall the Marc and Erick got on each-others bad sides when they both lived in Boulder some years back. I think they should agree to disagree and keep it to themeselves. They both seem like cool/interesting guys in their own right, and shouldn't spoil public opinion for on another, or themeselves.

Uh oh time for my two cents.

1. I'm glad Coach Davis removed "All it takes, is all you've got" from his posts. Sure did sound like he wanted all your money hahahaha.

2. So what if I'm a first year coach at a high school and have no real experience other than I played lets say football and now I'm coaching football. Are my athletes not allowed to call me coach? I think some people are looking to far into the word coach. It definately has no real meaning. Its like putting the word Gentlemen on a bathroom door. Does that mean everyone that goes in has to be a gentleman? Its not like you have to be knighted by the king coach to bare the title coach.

3. Let Davis be himself. I don't 100% agree with coaching over the internet but its probably a really good thing for some people. I'd really like to see some testamonials on his site eventually. I think that would be gratifying for Davis and his ventures.

Is Curious really RoJo? One is pissed that DOC calls himself a coach because he hasn?t met his standards. One is pissed that someone calls himself or herself a marathoner if they haven?t met his standards.

How dare he call himself a coach! Technically, he?s called himself a businessman and a marketer. How is it that no one got pissed at DOC because he ?started up a business? or advertised? without submitting a business plan or cash-flow model or banner mock-ups to Curious (aka RoJo) for his approval? Should RoJo blast away an editorial to Hotwire magazine because he has a real e-business and DOC is ruining it for all ?real? e-businesses? (Should I get pissed because both can rely on their parents for a loan and that ruins it for banks everywhere?)

Where is RoJo with his platform of ?how dare an Olympian sell out like that? and bring the sport down? I submit he is spinning the same jive under the name Curious.

Good for DOC / Galloway if they are leveraging their experience to help someone. Isn?t it help if the receiver deems it so, not if Curious or RoJo deems it so?

No curious isn't rojo. But I suggest you read robert's article before you blast him. He did not say that someone can not call themselves a marathoner if they follow the Galloway program. Robert applauds Galloway for getting people out there and exercising.

Can I advertise my coaching services? I don't really have any coaching experience, but I know alot about running. My coach used to ask me what we should do for practices. Can I call myself 'coach' now? I've already made the website and everything.
