You're nuts. First, bikes are low to no impact. I highly doubt you rode your bike for 8 hours straight at age 12.

Running 50 miles at age 13, is not "playing 6-7 hours," do you just write stuff while drunk? You're really comparing playing tag or hoops to a 50 miler?

A serious question for the parents of young runners here (who are running very long distances and/or training with high intensity).

Do your children enjoy the training and the races?

I remember training far too much for years so that my father could live his dream vicariously through me.

The first year was fun but after that I stopped enjoying the sport completely (not running).

It became torture. Training every day for 2 or 3 hours, then up to 14 hours on Saturdays and Sundays?

I would never put my child through that.

Please tell Mr how research has shown this is harmful to s young person.

My kids (14 and 13) have run numerous marathons and ultras, including long fixed time races. They absolutely LOVE the races, and are always begging to sign up for more, including some of the most insane ones out there (Zane Grey, etc.) As far as the training goes, it's kinda hit and miss. Some days, they can't wait to go to practice (they run with a youth running club), and other days it's the last place they want to go. But ask them if they want to go run the technical trails nearby, and they'll say yes every time. They also aren't training as much as some may think...their overall average is only about 30 miles/week, and that includes all their race miles as well. Even at that relatively low mileage level, they run times in their ultras that many adults are envious of...the 13-year old just finished 5th overall out of 87 in a trail 50K last weekend.

Yes, there are children who truly enjoy running for the love of running and the love of others!

can’t say for my parents, but I’m 15 and have run 2 50ks and currently training for a 50miler. been doing it for a year and half now and I love it. my parents have always been outdoors and I personally made transition to ultras myself. the training is part of why I do it and no t pressure from my parents. of course, can’t speak for all youth endurance athletes but I’m not “tortured” into it
