My favorite natural plant chemical must be picked, dried, roasted, crushed, and heated with water before consumption. Too much processing?

And what does processing have to do with being legal? It might make you feel better but that is a delusion. There are a lot of deadly toxins that are natural.
When ever some says there is no intelligent argument, they have a weak argument. It is almost as weak as the "think of the children" argument.
Legalizing any drug will have a societal cost and that cost may or may not be less than alcohol/tobacco. Taxing may or may not provide more money than it costs. Heck you aren't willing to legalize a bunch of other drugs suggest you agree with the general argument that people shouldn't be allowed to harm themselves. You just want to draw that line somewhere else so you can have your favorite drug while banning someone elses favorite.
And last I checked there are pretty much zero people in prison for smoking weed. They are in for selling drugs, having weed while committing some other crime and so forth.
Personally I am not a fan of legalizing just because the weed smokers are some of the most inconsiderate people I have meet. The percentage that smoke indoors in public spaces is incredibly high. I would like to go to a concert without having to smell your shit. I have to feel with legalization it would be worse.

the hypocrisy of people who would condemn harmless weed smokers to prison as the dregs of society and then go chain smoke cigarettes before having a few cocktails and popping an ambien so they can sleep at night is sickening.
Excellent point.
Last time you checked, there were no people in jail for smoking weed?
Are you serious, or just COMPLETELY out of your GD mind?
Have you even "checked" at ALL??
Here you go. I found proof you are wrong. In 1 minute. On google.
Bow down, until you can learn to use your stupid little brain.

, Florida -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office says two teachers have been arrested for possession of pot in their home.
Arrested are Bradley Goldsmith, 25, and Jessica Murray, 26, both of Loma Vista Court in Davenport. They are teachers at the Donald E. Woods Alternative School. Also charged is Jessica's boyfriend, Jason West, 26.
According to deputies, all three admitted to smoking marijuana socially at Goldsmith's home. They were taken to the county jail at Bartow on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling for drug use.
Deputies say a search of the home produced one large bong, five glass pipes, one cannabis grinder and marijuana. Jail records indicate the marijuana was less than 20 grams.
"It's troubling when teachers -- who should be role models for our children -- are smoking marijuana, therefore setting a bad example," says Sheriff Grady Judd. "The criminal charges may be minor, but the loss of trust is great."
Investigators say they received a confidential tip about the teachers after school resource officers found marijuana in a student's jacket at the school.
Also, here's a tip for the ignorant imbocile who thinks no one is in jail for marijuana: GO TO A COURTROOM. Preferably misdemeanor. Spend all day there. Throughout the day, you will see them herd in group after group of jailed inmates, wearing the normal striped uniforms. You will realize that most all of them are stupid and/or poor. You will realize they wouldn't be able to afford a lawyer in a million years, so instead serve out time in jail, for misdemeanors such as marijuana paraphinalia (which can be an empty blunt wrapper), becuase that is the only way for them to get off.
If you want, go to court more than once. After you see the dozens and the dozens and the dozens of jailed inmates which may or may not get their chance of freedom in court on the day you are there, you will realize that so many of them are in the jail because of marijuana.
You'll also realize that 90% of the cases in the misdemeanor court are for marijuana or somehow have a relation to marijuana (I'm now talking about the regular people who are in court, not jail). It's lunacy.
People want marijuana legalized not so that they can have easier access to getting their drug of choice. They want it legalized becuase they probably do it every single day and are tired of having to worry about going to jail for it.
Imagine if you had to hide behind a bush every time you went for a run because other people who have never run decided it should be illegal. Imagine that the reason they decided it should be illegal is because they say it will throw your knees out. You know this is a lie, you know it's propoganda. You know there is nothing wrong with running. Imagine people telling you that you should not run because it is illegal (even though it shouldn't be illegal).
California. Sure it is against the law but it doesn't stop any of the pot heads. If they wanted to get baked at home, I would care less. When they do it in public, it is annoying.

Smoke indoors? What kind of backwards state do you live in?

DO you think maybe they were dealing?

Hmm. You live in CA, and you go to public places where people smoke pot indoors? Are you high? I lived in San Diego for two years and the only public pot smoking I ever witnessed occurred at an outdoor pub on a university campus. I'm 100% sure that if someone lit up inside any public establishment, someone would call the cops, or at the VERY LEAST would confront the perpetrator in question.
To Joyride, right on. The courts are chock full of this inane bullshit. Besides gumming up the docket for more important misdemeanors, i.e. reckless driving (I believe every time I've been to court, I've seen an 18 year old asian kid who got caught going over 100 MPH...why always asian?), simple battery, DUI's, etc, the jails are exploding in large part due to drug offenders. I think the last thing the USA needs right now is more people in prison. Just one more mouth on the taxpayer budget. Blah.
Every single concert (over 20 in the past 5 years) I have been to in San Francisco and San Jose has had people smoking pot. Maybe it is my choice of musicians. Maybe it is the location

I didn't say anything about court. A zillion people get arrest. Few serve jail time.First google hit: http://whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/whos_in_prison_for_marij/whos_in_prison_for_marij.pdf.7% of the prison population is in for only possession. Obviously you can choose to not believe that data. If your pro pot, you can increase the number in for possession by counting a bunch of other other than simple possession such as parole violation, plea bargins (get jail for possession rather than admitting to trafficing), or it is in addition to another crime (you get 5 for robbery and 1 for possesion to be served concurrently) and so. Same data but you will get different number to prove you point.I agree pot addicts want legalization. I am sure crack addicts also want crack legalized. The cost would drop and the quality would improve.Unfortunately there are few(any?) first world countries with legalized pot (where you can buy and sell it legally. Not ones like the Netherlands where it is illegal but not enforced) so it is hard to figure out what legalization would do. I am guessing it would be pretty much a wash.

So what is their prison sentence?
definitely should be discussing the legality of something like peyote or mescaline or psilocybin
but to make arguments based on naturalness is just stupid and fellatious
