How do you guys make sure you won't need to make a short, let along longer, pit stop during long runs?
I waited 3 hours after a pasta lunch before I went for 13.1 earlier and still had to stop twice. I've learned to bring some toilet paper in my pocket.
During training its just really annoying. But during a race, esp. marathon, it can cost you precious time.
Any tips?

Coffee before the morning run. Tea before the afternoon run.
I personally only find it a problem DURING a run if I haven't managed to empty my bowels BEFORE a run.
Usually if I get up and have a coffee... I've cleared my bowels and my bladder long before I start running.
If you're in a hurry and want to try and keep your stomach stable... perhaps opt only for water? I think that as long as you steer clear of taking on anything with caffeine/fibre in it, you should be okay.

I know I'm taking this slightly out of context, but I actually find this kind of enpowering. "The world is my toilet." ... Maybe we uncontrollable poopers just need to embrace the fact that because we make the ultimate sacrifice (elite level running), we have to right to poop when and where we want without shame. Yes, there could be legal issues, but I like where this is going.
Most of my runs are around lunch time.
Always do a morning dump then another immediately before running. It usually clears the pipes. Occasionally the prerun dump is unsatisfying and I know there is some unfinished business. Had to leave an unholy steaming heap in Windsor Great Park (UK) the other day.
Prerace I always have the standard morning dump then a post warm-up dump which always seems to do the job.
If I haven't run for a while running always shakes something loose and it usually takes about 2 weeks for my bowels to get back to normal.
I have to go 3-4 miles into every morning run.
I wake up, drink a glass of water, drink a glass of coffee, poop, do a light dynamic warmup and im out the door within an hour.
It doesn't happen if I run at lunch or on race day. ON race day I have enough time to get it all out and I think race day jitters move things along.
Same for me, it's rarely a problem in a race due to adrenaline getting my system moving beforehand.
I used to have awful problems with it, now I find that eating a low fiber diet helps me. I would like to eat more healthily, but too much fruit and veg ruins my runs!
