not to take anything away from Rupp's accomplishments, but the 3k used to have heats the day before, I think they ended that in '99, so I don't think anyone would have even thought to attempt that triple.

maybe this sport is made up of polytheists? hmm. perhaps there can be more than one god.
Rupp dominates the NCAA Championships and the response is, "He's really a pro, it's not surprising/amazing how much better he is than everyone else."
If he had won by inches in close races, "Rupp only won because __________ happened and he barely won. Big deal. This shows he'll never really win it when it counts."
If he hadn't performed so well and hadn't won everything, "Rupp still can't put it together, doesn't have the heart/guts for a major championship."
There's no way for this guy to win, according to some people.
