I was thinking 4:20...
To me, 5:00 and 4:20 are both solid thresholds, but also nowhere remotely near the top. They're kind of like jumping off points for training further.
I wasn't thinking of it in competitive terms, nor really physiological terms. Perhaps a mix of the two, or something else. I was thinking "5:00" is pretty solid for a girl.. so what's considered "solid" for a guy?
And by that I mean, the dialogue is:
"What's your mile time?"
"5:00 (or 4:20)"
"Oh, okay. Nice." But not falling over in astonishment or anything.
Sort of achievable, a nice goal, not a career-topper, but still sets you a little bit apart. I figured others would say in the 4:10-4:30 neighborhood, which they did.
That makes sense?
