I don't read books because then I would be dead. You see my brain only can use so much oxygen so if I would fill it with words and letters from books my brain compartment wouldn't have enough oxygen and I'd suffocate and die. I'm self smart, I learn myself things without books. Yeah they sometimes give us books to read, I act like I'm reading it but I'm not going to read the thing.
you do that.

I think by letting my brain work. So far, I can either starve myself and in the meantime exhaust my body of it's needed fat for brain function or I could find the nearest muscle bank to make a donation.
How do you answer a question, enlightened one?
*Sigh*
Go on a diet. Your brain will survive.

Here, look at this interview with Brian Berryhill:
http://www.letsrun.com/interviews/BBerryhillHS.htm"Once, I got to college, I lost a lot of weight. My 2nd year at Colorado State, my coach sort of put me on a little diet I guess you might say. I am 6 feet tall and weighed about 176 in high school. Now I way about 154."
Now, Berryhill ran 48.0 and 1:51.4 in high school, so I'm going to guess he was didn't have much body fat either at that time. Heck, maybe he looked a lot like you. Yet he lost another 22 lbs. It can be done.
Unless I'm 9 feet tall, I'm a bit heavy for an elite distance runner.
To the original poster: U just caused an eating disorder to about 50 people. PRetty impressive I must say... Read some of the responses and their concern about their weight.
Alan Culpepper weighs 130.

So what would you consider to be an appropriate weight for a 5'6" distance runner if 132 is "way too heavy?" I don't really keep track of elite runners weights, but I'd imagine that most 5'6" pros are right around that range. I doubt many are "way" under.

Yikes, is that a direct quote?
Top level elite runners are born not made. I never lifted, averaged about 100 miles a week for a year, have run 15:43, 1:09:40 and 2:32:45. At the time I was 5'6', 140-145lb...but only 8% body fat.
You are either born to be a twig or you are not. Pre was something like 5'9', 150-160. Former AR in the half-marathon Herb Lindsey was the same.
Get over it. Get out the door. Run.

Why did my post asking about Anna Willard get deleted? Did anyone else notice she looked at least 10 lbs overweight running at Tyson? She ran a great race in 4:30 but I am thinking 4:23 if she is lean. Listed as 5'6" 120 but had to be 130. I have been watching distance runners for 30 years and never saw someone so successful with that much bellyfat.

Why is it that the idea of a diet or any notion of discipline regarding eating is always greeted with a response of "eating disorder!"?
Just because you pass on dessert doesn't mean you're anorexic. It could just mean you care about your performance.
Looking at those weights and heights, it appears the rule holds for the most part to be true..perhaps the weights are slightly under twice the height in inches.
If I am 6'0 and 200 lbs, should I be at runnerworld.com instead?
if you have 6 pack abs, you will be on the cover or you can model running clothes. funny how the male models generally look as if they are gym rats whose only cardio is on the bike or the 'mill.
Our dear Ms Carol Lewis was 5`10 and jumped her ARs at 163lbs.2.33

This one size fits all rule, is it a standard one? I have known great runners who were both bigger and smaller than this equation. I don't think it takes into account body types, muscle comp, or a bigger brain for that matter.

I've read that elite runners' optimal weight should be twice their height in inches. What do people think about this? Is this true?
