doesn't that mean he IS on the B team?
The problem with this race is that they usually go out in 59 point, cruise through the mile in sub 4:10, then when the rabbit drops they slow down considerably making it more of a sit and kick race. Then they charge that last 400 making the time slower than you would expect. These guys aren\'t interested in running a fast time in Feb. but more interested in winning and picking up the prize money. So they have weird race tactics. Just look at the 2006 race which was arguably the best field they have assembled in Boston. Winner was 8:26. Oddly though when the race is moved to 300 meters the time is usually under 7:40 giving a two mile time of under 8:20. But these times have only occurred in the last few years when Geb, Mottram, and Geneti were at their best. This year\'s field is a little watered down and I am betting that it will be a hot pace at the beginning, Rupp will stay off the leaders a bit, then catch up when it slows after the rabbit drops, he will not have the kick to finish with the top three guys, and gets fourth barely running under 8:30. This is not to say that he is not in better shape. Just that race tactics can be a bitch sometimes.
*Oddly though when the race is moved to 3000 meters...
NEWS UPDATE: Due to ruts being sighted in turn 2 Galen Rupp was pulled out of the 2 mile event this weekend by his coach Al Salazar. "Just not gonna take the chance", says Salazar, "Those indoor ruts can mess-up your season, especially if the are hidden under hot dopg wrappers and such."
But if he does run I'll do with 8:21.
so what's the deal, i looked at the meet website yesterday or the day before and it was a 2 mile, now it's a 3K.
why?

yeah i don't know why. it's not like the 2 mile is a totally useless race distance while the 3k is run all around the world. so i don't know why. hmm/
Can he get his 3000m qualifier with a 2 mile conversion? Or would they it set up to take his 3000m split? Not that it would be hard for him to get it later, I'm just wondering...

true, which is why people run a 2 mile at pre and a mile at pre. but since you just woke up, my question was regarding the sudden switch in events, not how legitimate the distances are.
and while your at it genious, go ahead and tell us about your favorite mens olympic 3,000 meter final.
Maybe I am missing something but it does say 3000 meter run on the site. It very well could be a typo. 3K, I would say he hits around 7:53 (if he runs).

hehe, you obviously didn't see the last few posts, don't blame you though.
not sure if he's running anyhow, i saw an article earlier in the week where lanana said he most likely would not be running due to a lingering illness but they were waiting on a blood test. it also said he is scheduled for a big 5k next week so that makes me think they would be less likely to take a risk. they do a good job of keeping things in perspective to be ready for the things that really count rather than a good early season meet.
obviously I'd like to see him run a fast 3k though.
will the meet be televised?
AlSal and Rupp inspected the oval and determined it is not in good enough condition. No go.

It's a fast track for distance. And Rupp may not start the race. Vin said it would probably be decided yesterday but no word yet that i know of. Hopefully he shows up.
Is the track Rupp-certifed?
8:56, limping home last on a stress fractured foot.
kicked down on last lap by super frosh German from OSU!

Oops, sorry. Fernandez isn't entered.

I'll predict he'll run about 7:50 for 3k
