my best guess was that CARTER got a freshman letter in 43 but was on team other years but did not get a VARSITY letter.usually only the top 7 0r 8 get letters and sevice academies often have large teams In PREP SCHOOL I ran against the Army freshman 2 years as they were not allowed to run varsity , 3 mile race .
if Carter was a plebe in 1943 he probably was not eligible for the varsity .Since there was a FRESHMAN team its obvious he did not get a varsity letter.WHEN WAS THE NCAA rule passed barring freshman playing varsity sports?Please post the research showing he got a VARSITY xc letter at Navy any year or tell me how to get it. thanx
