All right folks, now we are on a roll. I like Malmo's idea. Perhaps we can aim higher and get her the care in the US. To the HS guy with the $10, you are awesome. Amounts are relative!

Good suggestion, but medical facilities in Kenya are fine for something like this - for those who can afford it. Great to see the support!

the same care in the US would probably be better, but it would probably cost at least five times more also (without even considering items such as the cost of a flight here).

I know a lot of you might think, "heck, they're going to get the money easily without me. If I send money it might be extra"

Let me ask you, what difference does it make? Does it really matter to do that of your lousy ten bucks, four, five or even six bucks might be overage? The important thing is to just cut the damn check and sent it.

Look, it's not as though this is a leviathon mega-charity with mega-salaried staff in high-rise offices pitching innocents with expensive heart-tugging television campaigns.

It's not like Sally Struthers is barging into your living room trying to shake you down!

Just write the damn check! $10, $20, $46, $460, $4600 - whatever you think is right. Equate your expense to whatever luxury you can think of - a couple beers, a CD, a dinner with your girlfriend. All of those things you can do without once, can't you?

Oh yeah, don't try the "It's Christmas, money's tight this month" excuse on me. The freakin singing rubber fish on a plaque company isn't going to go broke if you divert your money elsewhere.

Don't even think about what others may or may not do. The important thing is for you to act - right now.

$10 [that's at least $14 Canadian] in the mail.

$100 will be donated by the New Mexico Highlands University cross-country team. Maybe a few more college teams will donate...?

I'm in for $500. Hudzik, if by tomorrow (Saturday) evening, I haven't posted that the check is in the mail e-mail me and remind me. I'm notoriously bad about mailing stuff and returning phone calls.

It's great that you started this thread. I read the story too and was trying to think of a way to help.

Ok, my check IS in the mail. No need for reminders. And now I'll chime in here and say that all of us at sometime have probably acknowledged that running can be a selfish activity and that we can be selfish. Here's a chance to attone for that.

Bump. I'm headed over to the Wachovia branch today with $100. College students, with the end of the semester upon us, when you sell your books back consider donating the money that you recieve to the fund. In a way its money you wouldnt really have had in the first place (if you're on book schholarship and are still allowed to sell them back, even better). Its a modest sum normally, but with the number of college runners on here it can add up pretty quickly

My check is in the mail as well. Here's hoping the money makes it to the Kiplagat family in time. Here's also thanking the originator of this thread for taking time to help this family.
