I run at an NAIA school. Don't get any financial assistance, but I get three pairs of shoes per year. Don't pay for warmups or anything else and travelled and competed in all of our meets except nationals.
I always thought shoes were part of the deal at all schools.

Calling your school cheap, especially one of the seven Nike-sponsored schools is not very smart. All seven Nike schools in the Big 10 have multi-million dollar all-sports deals!

Why is everyone scared of big brother? Who cares if they think the school is cheap and the coach finds out? It sounds a bit cheap to me but whatever. Is the coach an adult, or is the coach going to act like a baby and take offence and take it out on the runner (that being said it would be more mature to discuss your concerns with the coach, not in public - or better yet, not fight your daughter's battles for her)?
Sounds like you people either take their authority way to seriously, or are going to be perfect little cube workers that never rock the boat.

That's a pretty bold statement. Also, I'm having trouble thinking of a school that could get a runner of your caliber, yet not provide as much a jacket to it's athletes.
If you re-read my post, I was complaining more about the not being able to get stability shoes. She still wears her Mizuno's for practice but is required to be in "uniform" at meets and public functions.
She is dating a football player and he receives 3 pair of cleats, turf shoes, shower slides, running shoes and a pair of cross trainers. That is 7 pair.
She is a transfer student and a scholarship was not available.

Nike refuses to sponsor D2 schools because they feel that it gives them a negative image. If the general public sees people so slow wearing Nike they fear they may also become slow. Its a nasty cycle. So Nike says just do it to D1 and just forget it to D2....FACT
I compete at an NAIA school. We get free gear (t-shirt, sweatshirt, warm-ups), but we can't afford to stay in a hotel when we travel to cross country meets (track team doesn't do overnight trips except to nationals and then we do stay in a nice hotel). It isn't usually a problem as we only take overnight trips to areas where an alumnus or church can house our team.
By the way, I highly doubt we could afford a hotel if we didn't get the free gear. Assuming you put two people in a room at $80 for a night that is still probably worth more than the gear we get.

If she wants to transfer again, I'll give her all the shoes she wants. No scholarship, but a "free shoes" grant-in-aid.

Your daughters coach might want to try and recruit Alex Dunne she only uses 1 shoe at a time.

SO all this D1 crap is silly. and the fact kids get lured into these craptastic programs because of the "sweet gear" is laughable. Cool shirt bro, how's you 5k pr?
I didn't realize track and cross country programs were running on a shoe string. I played soccer for my screen name in the 80s, and every year we got indoor shoes, turf shoes, molded cleats, and studs, as well as practice gear and sweats. I had cleats I never even wore in my closet, and ended up giving them away to buddies from other schools who liked Adidas.
I really don't get why people bother to even bring their simple complaints to letsrun: posters here aren't sympathetic, don't expect a compassionate response
