Achilles injuries are overuse injuries- they creep up, and slowly get worse and worse.
Unless he had already injured it, OK state kept it quiet, and he just tried to gut it out- that makes sense.
But a 'sudden' achilles injury is something I've never heard of (in running at least). Anyone else?
As I recall, several years ago (maybe 2001), Jon Stevens of Stanford had a sudden and severe Achilles injury while running a leg of the Distance Medley Relay at Penn. He might have been stepped on, can't recall that detail but I don't think it was a chronic overuse injury.
I also don't think Stevens ever really recovered. Sure hope for a better outcome for GF.
