There is a song written about you called "American Idiot".
Honestly the drinking age should be around the age of 16, and driving should be bumped up a year to at least 17 if not 18.
Reasons behind this....
All the kids I know (including my self) where alcohol was not strictly enforced by parents, but instead they emphasized the mature way to handle alcohol and made clear consequences if misused. All those kids and I got to college and didn't do anything stupid or end up getting DWI's and Public Intox charges and arrests.
All the kids that had parents that would even let the kids see alcohol in the house went to college and got in big trouble when the got around alcohol.
My parents let me knock a few back at family events...... But it was understood if I got caught drinking out of the house without permission I would be in big trouble.
The driving age of 16 honestly is way to young, I would say maybe 10% of kids are actually mature enough to drive, the other 90% are either teenage boy who are extremely reckless or girls that are not confident in driving and are just horrible drives.... 16 year old kids should not be allowed to drive it is one of the dumbest things ever, kids now a day are not as mature as kids back a couple of decades ago and are very very immature....... and do not seem to understand the consequences.
Oh I don't believe you should be allowed to buy alcohol at 16 just be able to drink it. Every other country in the world has an extremely low drinking age or none at all, kids should be taught to learn how handle alcohol.
Honestly the laws of this country just end up making things worse in the long run........ Like Marijuana.... Its f***ing stupid why it is illegal, and in the end it just causes more problems for a drugs that has less side effects than alcohol.....
f*** this country drives me crazy sometimes.....
Weird. ALL the kids I know whose parents are cool with drinking drink ALL The time and are the hardest partiers. The kids whose parents dissaprove generally don't even Like alcohol that much.

Yep, you're right, it did sound pretty arrogant. 16 year olds may be good drivers as far as handling the car, but they do not have the experience of driving in traffic and avoiding accidents. A sixteen year old may be able to take a car through an obstacle course better than their mom, but the mom knows traffic patterns, dangerous situations, and can drive defensively.
Your comment is kind of like saying, "I drive better when I'm drunk, or I can drive fine while drunk." Sure you can, its not that hard to control a car, even while drunk. The problem is when something happens that is out of your control, and how you react to it. For example if a car cuts you off, you won't be able to respond quick enough while drunk.
Uh, not really. You correct me without even knowing the driving quality of the person I'm talking about. I've never driven drunk nor do I think I'd be good at driving while drunk. That's a pretty poor comparison.
My mom (not to pick on her, but I've spent a lot of time in the car with her) is one of the worst drivers I've ever ridden with. She speeds, always rides the bumper of the car in front of her, even on the interstate, rarely signals to change lanes, changes lanes in intersections, is often oblivious to traffic signs, turns into the wrong lane when turning right or left, and frequently crosses the center line for no reason. She has a very hard time parking too. I had driven with my parents quite a bit before I was 16 and also took drivers ed, so I was an okay (not great) driver when I got my license. I've had no wrecks or tickets.
I was actually just discussing this with a couple of friends. I agree with a number of posters who contend that the answer lies less in what is good for society at large and more in our (right-wing, if we think on a global scale) government's lack of interest in large-scale public transporation projects. As for the drinking age, I think it goes back to our Puritanical roots.
It's all completely backwards, but I can't see it changing anytime soon. I've made my peace with this.

Militant Islamic forces?
The problem we face in Britain is not from the armed forces of Egypt or Syria or Iran or Saudi Arabia - it’s from our own British born Muslim terrorists, who’ve been activated by British armed forces supporting American invasions of Muslim lands.
That off my chest - at what age can an American youngster join the armed forces ?
I believe if one can die for one’s country - at least should be mature enough to drink a beer or two.
The British can’t hold their booze - but on the Continent, children are brought up at an early age to drink - and appreciate the pleasurable and civilising effect of moderate alcohol consumption.
