When people speak about drug, I always go to repeat the same story. In 2003 I had an athlete, Nicholas Kemboi, having 28'19" in Hengelo. He remained with me in St. Moritz till the end of August, training very hard but not with a program only, but with my eyes on him every day. I was already his coach from 2001, giving programs and following him in Italy for short periods. When we were together for 2 months, I discovered in him qualities I didnt know. So, arranging his training according the NEW qualities I discovered, he was able to run 26'30" in Bruxelles, almost beating Gebre. The guy used (and still uses) to eat only ugali, potatoes, chicken, and to drink milk. Never any integration, never iron, never amminoacids, never anything.
So, do you think somebody can convince me that, using EPO, is possible for a top runner to increase his time of 40.0 >< 1:10 (these are the official data of a research of some year ago) ? If this is true, I give you the list of my best athletes in 10000m, with the correction with EPO :
1) Nicholas Kemboi 26'30" (25'40")
2) Ahmed Hassan 26'38" (25'48")
3) Moses Mosop 26'49" (25'59")
4) Mark Bett 26'52" (26'02")
5) John Korir 26'52" (26'02")
Being the WR 26'17", do you think that all my athletes could be able to destroy it ?
And, if Bekele is on drug, how much could he run WITHOUT any drug ? 26'17" + 50" (so, over 27') ?
In this case, is Bekele less talented than other 30 runners in the World ?
I saw Kenenisa, for the first time, in Monaco (Montecarlo) in 2001, Jos Hermens spoke with me about his great talent. At that time, he was officially junior (I write officially because I don't know one Kenyan or Ethiopian that didn't cut more than 2 years to his real age in the passport), in any case very young, and unknown. He ran 3000m, and I had eyes for him only. With 300m to go, he was no. 9 in the race, after he finished in 37.5 last 300m, arriving 2nd with the WJR of 7'30". I don't think a very young guy could be under drug. So, dont you think that the talent of this guy was ALREADY superior to the talent of other runners ?
And, regarding the test in Kenya (I dont have direct experience in Ethiopia, and I like to talk about what I know directly, only) I can confirm that there are a lot of test out of competition, and that NOBODY living in Rift Valley can use internet for informing IAAF about his whereabout. Are the managers doing this in their office, and so many times the athletes move, for their life, may be from village to village (many of them have 3-4 houses in different villages, or a farm in another place, and go to see the situation without communicating with their manager that, for example, from 10am till 17pm they are there. If the WADA arrives at that time, they wait for 2 hours only, after there is a missed test), without informing anybody. An African wants to feel himself free, and doesn't want to be controlled, not because fears the antidoping, but because is out of their mentality to plan something (like the same hour for training or for staying home). They move according to the feeling of the moment. You can say is not a professional behavior, and I agree, but nothing to do with drug.
And, regarding other posts, for example speaking about Pamela Chepchumba, Im sure that Rosa didnt know anything, because everything happened when she was for a period in Mexico, training with Gomez. Dont forget that FILA had camps everywhere, and Rosa gave very simple training programs, but never could control personally the activity of all the athletes under his management.
