how many fl finalists finish 1-2 or 3 under other coaches? go back and look at the FL finalists from 90-2000. The OVERWHELMING majority go on to do little to nothing at the collegiate level. most don't get close to breaking 14 in college. at stanford these kids were called wastes b/c they ONLY ran 14 minutes. the ignorance on here is astounding.

Wetmore has a pretty good batting average with FL finalists, but then he's actually selective of individuals and doesn't go after half a dozen every year.

It's true. The Press Enterprise got the story from UCR's Athletics Department and they wouldn't release that news unless they had a signed document.
Geez I can see why he would leave oregon but why UCR? The place is a dump. Very hot and smoggy. Although they did have some great teams in the early 80's, but that was a diferent ( and better) coach

I think one of the Assuma brothers (Frank or Chuck?) ran there, but that was much longer ago than 5-10 years.
Both Assumas went there along with a guy named Steve Alveraz...they were very good but that was more like 26 years ago...not sure what they had between then and the Irv Ray era...

And UC Riverside isn't an "easy" school by any means.
As a runner, I know I would never go near U of O or the OTC. I am VERY into running and running culture but the people up there act like pretentious, high society athletes. Because they train in Oregon they think they are better than everyone else. I prefer an environment where people are deeply invested the the sport, but don't have that type of attitude.
That being said, I can see why Chad transfered to UCR, but I think he did it for bad reasons. I would have picked a stronger program with some really nice places to run rather than a crappy school with a bad team. But, his decisions are his own so I can't criticize what I don't know about. I suppose that should go for my criticism of Oregon as well, but from what I do know and have heard I stand by my opinions. I wish Chad the best of luck and hopefully he will do well at Riverside.

Obviously I am not in his situation but I think if I wanted a top quality program and still altitude train I would have gone to San Bernardino City College and train with Wes Ashford for a year and is an hour drive down the mountain from Big Bear and then transferred to Colorado.
Good choice Chad. Obviously you might have to redshirt this fall or maybe the entire year by transferring to a University of California school to catch up on the academics. I am also more interested in my academic future given the odds of an athlete making it to a big shoe contract.
