I coached several International distance runners who felt the same as Ruth, in terms of coming off the plane and racing well or not. Obviously, ventolin has more experience and knowledge than the rest of us.

Maybe this was nothing than a race pace workout for her? Ever consider that one. Ruth knows what she is talking about given her long history of experience. I remember her getting off the plane and running very well in the worlds 1500 (1995) after being notified last minute she was on the team, 10th place I recall- Nonetheless, don't discount Ruth. Shannon probably does not have a lot of experience overseas and probably used it as a shakeout race with little expectation. Her and Donahue are training partners and both ran about the same - Coach Cook knows what he is doing with these ladies and she may have slightly peaked for her Trials race and is getting back into another training phase before Bejing.

by the way, Hazel Clark ran 2:03.94 this evening in Athens...guess our US women's middle distance Olympians oughta just hang it up for the season, huh Ventolin ?

BUT...I did measure it with a jones counter and it was, and still is about 50 meters...........LONG.

Ventolin: Boy you got some issues, get back on your meds. Let the women run and either cheer them on or be polite. What's the point?

I heard that she almost got knocked over in the race, but I guess its easier for the judge and jury to sit in front of their computers and google her times against others. That's really all the info you need.

I'm looking forward to see how she does against these faster runners, since she hasn't been pushed yet. And at 23 and having her best year ever, she's got a great future ahead. I choose to cheer and wish her the best.

Where did you hear that Rowbury almost got knocked over in the race? Do you know for sure if she tripped and/or fell?

Maybe that would explain the slower than expected time from her.

There aren't really any viable options other than racing in Europe. It would not be good to stay home and train, and there won't be quality track races in the U.S. She will DEFINITELY get something over there that she hasn't already had, and will be challenged by a variety of experiences. That, and living and training away from home. You can't put a price tag on that. Besides, she's still young. I'm certain that 2012 will be even better for her than whatever happens in 2008, no matter how this year turns out.

I agree. In some ways I'm most excited about seeing her and Wheating run in Beijing.

Both of them are young and they both seem blissfully unaware of any limits on what they can do...
