I was on the same warmup track as Wariner a year ago during a workout and he gave me the decency of a "track" call when passing me in a completely calm almost sedated voice...
thus leading me to believe he is a nice guy...plus he is white; and although I'm a completely neutral individual...it is nice to see the artificial stereotype of black vs. white be broken down by a human.
Word. Phelps has a chance to win 7-8 gold medals.

This is correct. Please don't try to compare Wariner to Phelps, possibly the most successful US Olympian EVER.
Track and field and swimming are completely different sports.
a Swimmer can win 4 medals very easily.
A track and field athlete can win maybe 1 or 2 and it will be very difficult.
track and field are on a order of magnitude harder than swimming. In this regard, Phelps is still the best Olympian, but not by as much as many put him out to be.
If he wins 8 Gold Medals, I will promptly stick my head up my own ass.
I still think he can win 7 Golds. Like Spitz.

Good post MKerr. I started one of the main threads criticizing Jeremy for changing coaches, as I don't think it was a great move. I DID NOT however say anything about him ruining his career. Jeremy is too talented NOT to be in the mix in the Beijing 400m Final.
That being said, there is a very fine line(and a very huge difference) between being #1, the best in the world, 2 time 400m gold medallist, and the guy that loses to Lashawn Merritt in the homestrech at the 2008 games. After his coaching change, he lost to Merritt for the first time ever. It was his first loss to anyone in years. Jeremy ran 43.98 at Bislett, but lost to Merritt a week before in 44.07. Who knows what Merritt would have run had he run Bislett. Either way dropping .09 really isn't saying anything at all different than his performance said a week before, because his main competition wasn't in the race.
We will sure see in a couple of weeks. If Wariner is missing that .01% that he had in years past coming down the homestrech and loses to Merritt, can that be attributed to the coaching change? It will in my book. I just can't see how it's a good decision. It does show that he doesn't believe Hart's training is the reason he's the gold medallist.
I mentioned this in an earlier post but think about it...The greatest two 400m runners in the history of the planet grew up 15 miles from each other and less than 2 hours from Waco. Awfully long odds to be a coincidence. I think the coach and the program had something to do with it.
last time I checked he lost the race with real competition... nice TT against some chumps (relatively speaking).... but I dont think he'll have that luxury at the Olympics... oh and did I mention he lost in the race before this one... greed is a poor reason to start a tradition of coming up short against real competitors...

By "right up there," I mean in the realm where he should command endorsement deals. I recognize how special Phelps is, but almost everybody on this planet runs a race at some point in their lives (schoolyard, etc.). Approaching the WR in the 400m is pretty damned special, not to mention World and Olympic gold medals. Pointing out that Wariner "doesn't even have an AR to his name" as a reason he doesn't get exposure...now THAT is dumb, as is your juvenile statement, "wow, you're dumb."
