the allusion may have been in poor taste, but i think the insult of freidrich (i beleive?) who set an outdoor pr in the HJ was worse, after her PR she attempted an increase of .07 (again, i beleive) and he said she had a good day, for her, and had to 'come back to reality'...rawson is at least trying to get the viewers interested and his lay-term explanations are likely helpful to new viewers and fans. dwight stones sounds like a stuck up ass

YES!!! I hate it when he says that. I also hate how nobody on ESPN gives a frickin lap split. They are too busy weaving their storyline to actually describe the race with the data they have.
I was a vollunteer assistant coach for La Salle HS on the Lower East Side of Manhattan from 1998-2000. This La Salle HS isn't the more famous one located on Long Island but is composed of kids from mostly low income families who are seeking an alternative to the Public Schools.
Admitedly, we weren't a very good team (although 2 of the runners did go on to compete at SUNY Albany and Northeastern) and it was mostly about getting the kids to come out and run. In fact, sometimes we had problems fielding a full 7 man varsity because many of the kids were from single family households and had to work on Saturdays.
Anyway, Larry Rawson contacted the head x-c coach and voluntered his time and wisdom as well as hooked the kids up with running shoes and tickets for Millrose.
He had no reason to do something like this but was motivated by pure kindness.
I have no problems with him.

Yeah, people really do need to lay off ol' Lar'. Even before reading this post by Philip, I always thought he got an undeserved bad rap. Once you get past his Yodanese grammar, he\'s really not that bad. He loves this sport; that comes through in his commentary and actions alike.
I'm mostly indifferent to Larry. He's a solid announcer, and he seems very knowledgable, but one of his verbal tics is really starting to wear on me. No, not the ones about leg turnover, "go down to your local high school track," or "...you youngsters at home..."
It the one where he's always saying some variation of, "He has the fastest time in the world this year, does John Doe." Why can't he just say the more natural, "John Doe has the fastest time in the world this year."? OK, so maybe he wants to vary his verbal pattern occasionally, but he does it over and over and it's starting to be all I hear when he talks.

Larry Rawson being a good person and Larry Rawson being a good commentator are two totally different things. I don't expect Carol Lewis to be a bad person simply because she mangles the telecasts of our sport, rendering them almost unwatchable...

What do you suggest he read? A book on mixed metaphors? It's eyes that get jaundiced, not ears (as you'll discover first-hand if you keep drinking so much booze).
