Oh well that changes everything...it was windy. That will translate to 28:15 on the track in less than a month. So when he DNF's or doesn't break 30:30 is he still a hero? Does he find a job? He has enough people drinking his kool-aid I'm thinking he can milk this 'til 2012.

Very sad... I look at Magdelena L Bolett who just made the Olympic team with no sponsor and a full time job. I'm not saying he should stop chasing his dream but maybe he can have a job on the side.

I have spent a fair amount of time with Magdalena and with Paul and both are most enjoyable to be around; I'd enjoy working with or having either (or both) working with me anytime.

you gotta pull for a guy like this. hope he can stay healthy for a good stretch of time. I had no idea that to just run in the 10k trials you have to have a 28:15? That can't be right, can it? How many US runners have qualified? Seems like it would be 28:30 or so, at the fastest. For Paul to run a 28:15 or better in the next month seems like a real longshot. He needs to break 29 first and the difference between a 29 and 28 minute 10k are night and day.

Your jealousy is making you miss the point. He can be as dumb as he wants to be. If he wants to forego a retirment income to chase a dream, no matter how unrealistic YOU think it is, that's his choice. If a company thinks it's feasable to use him to represent their company, that's their choice.

Again, how does that affect you? That's right, not at all.

Ok, you are right, this is Paul's choice and screw anyone who isn't on board but don't confuse his dreams with having "nads" or not. Don't confuse a "dream" with an unreachable goal, he has no shot in hell and I think he even know this, he's just buying time before he has to grow up. For all intensive purposes the guy has not had a real job, he's thirty freaking seven years old, he can do what he wants but don't confuse "delusion" with having "nads and dreams". I would hope my friends and family would look me in the eye and tell me how foolish I was for wanting to be a 6'4" horse jockey

The problem with Stoneham is the training program he is following: 115 miles/week for well over a year and it only produces 15:02 and 31:14 with his ability is dismal. Not only that, he is constantly breaking down. He needs to re-evaluate his training program. Stop being so stubborn, perhaps drop to 90-100M/week, and stop believing that there is some "magic" in 115 miles per week and doubles every day with a 22-mile long run. That will not get you to where Stoneham wants to get to.

I think any story related to track and field should be welcomed in the newspaper. Texas is a football dominated state. I scour the sports section of the Star-Telegram daily for ANYTHING related to running. This was a three page human interest story that appealed to runners and others. The story started on the front page of the paper, continued to the front page of the sports section, and to a middle page of the sports section. I guess I just don't get what upsets you about this. It is an Olympic year and there is very little in the lay press about track and field, when a story is published you guys bitterly bash it. It seems a little counter intuitive...

After a nice write up in the Fort Worth paper I've been intrigued with Paul's quest. I've gone to his slick multimedia website, his blog, his myspace and facebook page but I cannot find any qualifying races that he's entered. I don't see his name in any qualified list....is there any news?

How close did Paul come to qualifying? Anybody know?

Paul had a hamstring problem.

Was scheduled to run in MI for a qualifier but lost $500 on a plane ticket.
