Best/Worst Lyrics In Pop/Rock music

Most Oasis songs are diabolical. Take these samples just as a taste:

"All your dreams are made

Of strawberry lemonade..."

So not lemonade then.

Who the **** is Sally?

What does any of it mean. Nothing; but you can get away with it if you pretend it's really profound.

However, Oasis aren't the worst.

"Life" by Desree goes like this:

"I'm afraid of the dark

'Specially when I'm in the park

And there's no-one else around

It gives me the shivers.

(Now this verse is something else)

I don't want to see a ghost

It's the sight I fear the most

Rather have a piece of toast

Watch the evening news."

Then the chorus only has one word:

Life ooo Life oooo Li-i-i-i-ife ooo life...etc

Perhaps many Ramones songs are quite simplistic, but the lyrics to "We're A Happy Family" are brilliant.

It's "reved up like a duce.. another runner in the night"

not wrapped up like a duche.

"My Humps" is one of the worst songs to come down the road in years. It's terrible is so many ways.

You do know what the song is about? This song is usually in the top-10 or top-20 of songs of all time. Kind of difficult to rank on the lyrics of the song.

Yeah, the success of the totally sucky Nickleback continues to baffle me.

Hands down, the worst lyrics (and song for that matter) ever recorded: Charlene "I've never been to me."

The talking part towards the middle/end is just over the top.

Yeah, I know. A bit depressing, but there you go! The band does have some decent songs, but it seems the ones which are voted 'great' are the ones that sound like they were written by a 13 year old wannabe poet. Ever listen to the words?

At least Nickleback don't pretend to be more than they are.

Roy Orbison rarely gets mentioned in this kind of thread, but the lyrics to "Running Scared" and especially "It's Over" are pretty devastating. He had co-writers on both, so I'm not sure who to praise for the lyrics.

Ray Davies, Arthur Lee, and Richard Thompson are three of the great lyricists.
