Bekele 10K WR Attempt at Pre

Doubt Kenny will be in WR shape. His last attempt was a disaster.. although it was late in the season.

I honestly think that he has peaked.. and he is starting to strain to win races.

The great bekele is at a plataeu.. but no one is there to kick him off. the closest kenyans

Soi = not consistant (zero kick)

Kipchoge = Declining

Mottram = has lost his mojo as of late

Chebi = washed up

moses mosop = no kick

Matati (sp?) = no kick

kemboi= back to his old self... his punch can't break an egg.

Ethiopians

seleshi = close but needs to time his kick better

tariku = defers to his older bro too much

Ibrahim jaylen = he can eat him up if he catches him in a slow race.... i have never seen a kick like his.

Gebremariam is in good shape 28:17 in addis is no joke.

I was thinking the same, but consider this. I assume that Bekele is going to be in the US atleast a few days before the race. Is he going to stay on Ethiopia time and sleep during the day? I doubt it.

I agree. The idea of Rupp going with Bekele in the 10k is laughable. Bekele's 5k split when he ran the WR was 13:09. Rupp's 5k PR is 13:30. No chance. Rupp should just focus on Hengelo, maybe take Bekele out to dinner for some racing advice.

this is probably the worst period in kenyan 10k history - i had no idea who the roadsweepers they sent to osaka were, but they're going to send 3 more to peking

when they next produce some 26'30 guys only god knows, but if they can produce ones like kemboi out of nowhere, it coud be anytime, but maybe not this year

I predict a 27:07. What a lot of people don't realize is that it is geographically impossible to break 27 minutes in the 10k in North America.

Something about the proximity to the Norther Lights and I think the Mormans have something to do with it...

Calling Kipchoge 'declining' is a bit of a stretch. He was ranked #2 last year in the 5000 by TFN and finished second in the World Champs behind Lagat. He also had the third fastest time of the year. On top of that he had the third fastest 10000m too. I won't say he is improving on the promise he showed four years ago, but he's been performing fairly consistently in that time frame. He started off the 2008 season well with a 7:33 3000 this past weekend too.

It will be interesting to see how Komon does, he could be a real diamond in the rough coming off his World XC performance. And the two Japanese-based 10000m runners who ran low 27's last month could elevate the Kenyan prospects this summer.

Isn't it too early in the season for him to be in such good shape?? Our seasoned crew of American runners are always peaking at the right time, when it matters most, while chumps like Bekele peak too soon.

abdi is on the startlist for the hengelo 10k on may 24th, so i would doubt he would run another track 10k on june 8th and then run the trials which go from june 27-july 6th, i think the mens trials 10k is on july 4th, that would be a lot so close together.

WHAT?! This is about 4:14 pace unless I'm doing the math wrong...I don't think it would be a brilliant idea for Rupp to "hang on" to Bekele for as long as he could. I don't know, maybe it's just me lol...

The Ethiopians often do workouts early in the morning. Sometimes as early as 6 AM, at 7500-8000 feet no less. A nice day at 60s-70s...in oregon? WR is possible.

If I had the money I would go to see that.

I wouldn't exactly call it a disaster...he was a little off early and once he realized it wasn't going to happen he lowered the effort a bit. It was still a very fast time. It just shows that WRs are NEVER easy. Even with perfect weather and the right athlete, a WR is no guarantee.

Who are they going to get to rabbit the first 5k?

Isaac Songok beat Bekele a couple of years back and also ran 12:48. If can manage to return to his 2006 form he could really challenge Bekele. Shaheen is good enough to beat Bekele I think, but he's had injury issues recently and he focuses on the steeple. Augustine Choge is another runner who definitely has the talent to be up there as evidenced by his one-shoed sprint victory in the 3k at Doha. Kipchoge has yet to return to his '03 - '05 form, but if he does then he'll be really tough to beat
