I just don't get it. I drink as much as anybody (and there's a few on this board that will vouch for that) and I can still read the bill at the end of the night. On top of that credit card, cash, wampum or beads what difference does it make. They can only add a few drinks if you're on a card??????

Agreed. Although I'm not denying the night that I tipped as much as I paid for drinks. I guess I thought 20% meant double that night...

Think about it. If you leave $1 tip for each $3 beer, you're tipping 33.3%!
Now, drink your 5 beers and keep it on a tab for the night and then leave your standard tip percentage. So, $15 bucks plus tip, say $3 bucks to put it at 20%. That's $18 total.
Individually, those 5 beers would have cost you $15 plus $5... I'm sure Flagpole could tell you what to do with the extra cash from each night...
Now, those two dollars don't sound like much, but take your g/f out, or even worse your drinking buddies, and it really adds up!
If you're not coherent enough to keep track of drinks ordered, make sure SOMEONE ELSE is...

How about this...just get one beer. Tip THREE dollars or more because you're nice. Then, get up on stage and play music and walk out with $125-$200 for the night. Since you tipped the bartender well, you'll be asked back (best to play well though to ensure that).

If you're drinking so much that you can't keep track of what you ordered then the hot chick sitting next to you won't be impressed no matter what.
TIPPS= to insure prompt personable service should be offered before service. When out with a group and expecting a large bill I always start the night by giving the keeper an up front tip. I say "My friends and I are not afraid to tip for excellent service but we hate to tip for
average service."

BTW metro gnome is widely know in bar circles as a fair tipper if you work for your tip you get a good one ,phone in the service metro gnome phones in the rip on the check.

Here's a little tip to save money...
Buy a hip flask and a relatively decent bottle of Vodka/Whiskey ($15-20). Whenever you go out, bring the flask filled with booze and just order sodas. Go into the bathroom and top the drink off yourself in a stall.
I cook a steak and keep it in my pocket in a baggie when I go out. I only order a baked potato. I take two bites of potato go to the mens room stall take two bites of steak back to the table for some spuds etc. Often the people at the next table leave money behind,. I can use that money to pay for the potato about 50% of the time. No need to tip because the waiter had to come to the table to deliver full meals to the suck... err... my friends. A potato dont weigh nuthing so it is no sweat to carry one from the kitchen.I mix a grape kool ade into the free water so no beverage bill either.It's all good bunky.

Here's even a better way. Go hang out on the outskirts of a large group that is running a tab. Act like you're part of the group, and the waitstaff will often just add your drinks to the total. They might even ask if you're with that group. Just say yes; no one ever checks. In a large enough group, chances are everyone will think you are part of that group. With that many people, no one will notice your drinks when the tab is paid up.
At a conference one time, I pretty much got bombed every night for a week on a rival CPA firm's tab.
I thought the same thing...once I saw a guy keeping track of his drinks at a bar and it wasn't to make sure his tab was correct but to see how much he'd end up drinking that night...that would be the most low budget move ever to keep track of your drinks...and like the bartenders will use your little napkin checklist as proof to your drinking for the night?!...yeah right...I'll try it this weekend...I'll put three checks on it for three beers...despite having several rounds of drinks bought...I'll let you know how it works...I'm sure I'll be the laughing stock of the bar...

Why not just go to bars that do beer and setups? That way the only thing you top off in the bathroom is the urinal.
hey if you don't like it then you don't have to use it. I've never had a problem with it. I've never presented it to a bartender, but if things get foggy or you buy rounds for other people it makes it easy to figure out if your tab is in the right neighborhood. If you'd rather just pay whatever they charge you, then knock yourself out champ.
As a bartender I can say if you are douche when you drink then you can expect to be ripped off, and you deserve it. On the other hand, I would routinely hook up the people that drank at the bar, especially regulars, often giving my better patrons up to 50 dollars in free drinks. It keeps them coming back and they tip like a mofo.

overcharging customers you dislike or giving it away to those you do....either way you're nothing more than a two bit thief
