if you had 2 months and could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

80 bucks a day before you deduct travel costs does not buy you much anywhere even as a youth hostel living backpacker.

Think more local.

I would tour Europe. With two months you could see numerous countries and meet amazing people. You could start in London, take the train to Paris, and then circumnavigate Europe by going to Belgium, Holland, Germany (head to Berlin first then make your way south all the way to Munich), then to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Switerland, South of France, Spain, Portugal, and the back to Paris and go home. It may sound like a lot, but you would have ample time in each place. I've nearly done all of this and I was only there 5.5 weeks. These places are used to tourists and you would be able to get around easily, plus nearly all have subway systems. Fly into your first city and out of the last. It isn't that much more expensive. Also, all you really need to know is "beer, please" and "How much?" Happy travels

Not telling YOU where to go, but I would head to Vietnam, where I hear the food is absolutely fantastic (french crossed with asian)and accomodations are dirt cheap, 5 star hotels for $50/day. Beaches are incredible.

I didn't bother reading any of the previous posts b/c I am too lazy. But I had two months off in 2000 and spent it backpacking Australia and Bali. Money exchange was much more favorable and I was also in Sydney for the 2000 Games, which was the funnest, biggest party ever. At any rate, I feel like you have to first, follow something that really entices you, then narrow it down based on what you would like to do while you are there (especially the time of year...don't want to go to the beach during rainy season for example) and if you can afford it. I know my bro and his wife took a 2 month honeymoon (similar situation as you) and they traveled to every random corner b/c they felt they would probably never get the opportunity again (job, kids, blah, blah, blah). They did things like Easter Island, which is extremely expensive on a $5000 budget, but also very unique. In my experience, no travel has been bad travel...even my week in Roatan, Honduras where I saw sun 1 day (see rainy season reference above). I still got to drink some local beer, check out the culture, and see some cool animals and stuff, and eat a ton of super, super cheap seafood. Oh one more thing, you must also decide if you want to 'travel' or 'vacation'. These are two completely different things and require a different mind set and amount of energy. I have found when I 'travel' I hardly get runs in, but on 'vacation', things are easier to schedule.

You could ride the Trans-Siberian Railway from Vladivostok to Moscow, stopping at a few cities along the way, and then spend the rest of your time/money in Eastern Europe.

I second that - get a Eurorail pass and explore. Don't make any elaborate plan, just jump on a train for whatever destination you fancy. If you are prepared to sleep on the trains you can cover a helluva lot of sights. Most city train stations have showering facilities. Stay in youth hostels and meet some fellow travellers and have a wild time.

Go to Moscow and stay at a sex palace and screw all the girls, they have so many beautiful Eur-Asian girls as the cross-roads of the Asian continent. Other great cheap sex hotels are in Hungary, Poland, the old East Germany. It's legal there and they think is very very Christian ;-) and I agree.

My dream trip is Machu Picchu, and the rest of South America. Since I think you're a troll, they may like you down there, hell, you may even get worshipped! ;-D

Vietnam is tied for first as my favorite country I've visited (Italy is the tie). The people are great and the food is the best in SE Asia (including Thailand IMO).

The beaches in southern Thailand on the east coast are better, though Ha Long Bay in north VN is stunningly spectacular (limestone formations rising from the sea floor.)

It'll cost you around $1000 (I paid ca. $800) to get there (China Airlines is cheapest), but you can easily get around SE Asia with the remaining $4k for two months. I traveled there for 6 months on not much more. While you're there, you would obviously need to jump over to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat, and check out Laos, which is the most laid-back country you'll ever visit. You'll likely fly into Thailand, and that's a must-see as well.

I'm not really sure how far you can go in Europe on $4k/2 months (- travel), but I've only been to W. Europe, and I had a job when I did that (so I spent w/o a real budget.)

I went to Ibiza in 2001 and spent 3k in 1 week, so that might not be the best 2 month solution.

New Zealand without a doubt, especially the south island. I've been to a lot of places and I've been to New Zealand before (I was there in 2004 and 2006) and for me its the best.

Its commonly regarded as the extreme sport capital of the world. Im into serious mountain biking, fishing and Kayaking so its pretty much paradise. Oh, I also loved Italy, especially the south-but for totally different reasons.

This past summer I biked by myself from Seattle to LA. It took about a month and I might have spent about $2000. Then two weeks later I went to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It is not so expensive when you use

Figure out the cheapest way to get there. For me, I live in Israel, and I travelled to Cairo by land and flew from there for cheap.

All and all, I really enjoyed it.

What I would really want to do next some day is either India/Thailand or South America. I think South America would be awesome with Machu Pichu (sp?), Amazon, Rio, Santiago, Buenos Aires (sp?) etc.

Another idea is to volunteer somewhere like in sub Saharan Africa. I volunteered in Kenya and is was a life changing experience. This summer I'll probably volunteer in a medical clinic in Ethiopia. From Israel it is just a few hundred dollars ticket and then I don't think I will have to spend more than $5-$10/day while there.
