Didn't his family pay for much of the things that he does that no one else "gets to do." Anyone who buys a plane ticket to Europe, takes a pair of spikes, and is fast enough to get into races there "gets to" run races in Europe. Anyone who's fast enough to get into major races "gets to" have his travel paid for.
It seems like he and his family have brought about all of the opportunities that he's had. Being good at creating opportunities for yourself is not a bad thing and it's a thing that we all "get to" do. The fact that most people don't use their talents and brains to put themselves in the best possible situation should reflect negatively on the many who don't, not the few who do.
Harry, Nike payed for the travel initially. Rupp had to pay NCAA fines after this was found out.
Facts: Rupp flying on the Nike jet to workout on an indoor track. Once a week. Lived or 'visited' the altitude house where pro runners lived. Trains at the Nike HQ using machines normal NCAA runners have no way to use. I could go on but you get the drift.

Running is the only sport that likes to shread the heros or those at the top. Take away the top 5 reasons for hating Rupp and they would come up with others. Rupp is extremely talented and represents the future of US distance running. The funny thing is; I would bet most of those guys ripping him are american; unreal.
He deserves all the advantages he gets and then some. Look at football players, baseball etc. THat is the way the world works. Rupp is awesome; everytime he runs well he shreads a hater.
Trust me. They hate me much more.
the fact that he comes across as a complete ass in many interviews is another reason; throwing ghetto signs and stupid slang that he thinks is cool. not saying there is a problem with it, because he is young and obviously not mature yet, but, it is a reason people dislike him.
and yes, if i was given the opportuniteis he has, i would run faster. he gets into a lot of great meets(BIG, Millrose) in events that he shouldn't really be in because of his affiliation. it is much easier to run fast when you get in these races with pace setters and a group of other people running fast...again, not saying it's wrong, but definitely a reason to cause some hate. (yes mostly jealousy)
there is also the fact that he looks like peter pan with a breathe-rite and leg sleeve. can you not dislike some one for the way they look? it happens all the time.

You buy your own shoes.
How can the blue collar type runners have a positive opinion on him.

I get the vibe that rupp thinks he's above the college system. And yes he is very good, but from his actions it seems he thinks he's head and shoulders above everyone else. His focus is clearly to compete with international and professional talent. And while he's one of the better NCAA runners he's not the best. He doesn't have an NCAA title. There are runners in the college system that can beat him, and more that can make him nervous, but he blows every one off to go run a mile with montram and legat, and then comes in last too. Or he goes to race over seas. If he was walking over everyone in the NCAA he could turn his focus to the international arena, but he hasn't. He's a college runner, has competition amongst his peers, but they're somehow not good enough for him. If that's the case, then he needs to go pro. If your in college, then NCAA championships should be your focus.
No one would deny that kind of treatment. The problem is that he is an NCAA athlete. He is supposed to be an amauter, you know, like every other college runner. He clearly is a professional and that pisses a lot of the real amauter college runners off. It's easy to read the message boards. It's not easy to stand on the starting line with a guy who's wearing prototype Nike spikes and who has a personal masseuse, trainer and coach at the meet and just flew in on the private Nike jet. Would you like this guy?
I don't hate Rupp. I hope he runs 26:30 for 10k. He's a professional that's been competing in the NCAA with every possible advantage (Does Nike let all collegiate athletes visit their altitude houses, use their treadmills, see their doctors, get massages?). No other collegiate athlete has those advantages. I dislike that. I dislike his attitude in interviews throwing up gang signs. If you are going to make your huge, huge advantages so obvious, have some dignity in interviews.
He has ridiculous advantages against his peers (yet never won an NCAA title). You CANNOT say he doesn't. That is why people don't like him, namely his fellow 'normal' collegiate runners.

People hate him because they are simple minded, hypocritical and or/ jealous.
Who would turn down his opportunities if they had those same opportunities? Only an idiot would, so anyone complaining of that is a hypocrite.
He's done nothing wrong. He goes out and runs hard and trains hard and petty, jealous people have a problem with that. These are the same type people that envy anyone with a nicer car than them. It's sad. He's a good representative of the sport.

Furceosnhn you make no sense.
first you imply that 22's a young age. Then you say you changed the first part from kid to man because let's face it, he's older.
22's not terribly young for the olympics, 22 or 23's about right for your first olympics. Of course this is assuming he qualifies.
Like here's a good example. In just this race, at Washington (I think its a fast track but still)

4 colligates, 1 of them an Oregon guy running 4:03 or better, whats wrong with running agaisnt these guys? In the mile Rupp is not even close the the caliber of Lagat and Montram. Not only is he racing pros, when he could be running at meets with his teammates against other college runners who are faster than he his, he is racing pros in the mile when he's a 10k guy.
I am not simple minded or hypocritical.
All the top guys train hard. Comparing this to life, cars or jobs is retarded. He has outrageous advantages brought on by the biggest athletic corporation in the world. The NCAA system is about fair competition. Someone with those outrageous advantages is a professional. Plain and simple.
Mtndew have you ever raced at that level? It's easy to look at Rupp and see nothing wrong. Remember, he is considered an amauter, not a professional athlete.
