Hey, I\'m hoping to run a sub-2:00 800 this coming track season, and my training\'s been slipping a little lately.
I have a 400 PR of 54.5, 800 in 2:02, and a mile time of 4:52. I had a solid 400m interval session the other day, I ran 8 400\'s in 64-65 with 1:30 jog rest, but I haven\'t felt good on a single tempo run. Aerobically, I can hold a 7:30 mile pace for up past 10 miles, but if I drop below 7 I bomb out after three.
So my problem\'s aerobic, and the solution seems like more miles. I\'ve been running about 25-30 miles a week until two weeks ago, and it\'s at about 35 now.
I can\'t run seven days a week because of my schedule and my first race is in mid-March, is there any base program I can follow for success in race season? Also, how should I stay motivated for longer, more frequent runs, and when should I start speedwork and LT runs and soforth?
I say stick to the fast stuff, a 4;52 isn\'t that great, either is a 54.5, but a 2;02 is a good start for breaking 2;00! Foget the 10 milers, in fact the longest runs should be around 6, at 7:00 or better! I would say 35 miles a week, with hills, tempo\'s ( 3 mile at 6:00/mile) and lots of track work come march should do the trick! foget the mileage, that will not help here!
