And lets not fool ourselves that all of the candidates are all that religious. Some just realize they may need to bed some questionable/sinister mates to win the presidency.

I hear Mike Huckabee doesn't need Chuck Norris to carry him on his back through the marathon anyway. He's got angels for that.

I'm not sure I'd go with a jump that dramatic. Why is it great that Huckabee is running Boston but a travesty that Katie Holmes is? I'm not referring to you specifically here, just a general question for the letsrun dwellers.

Personally, I don't care if either of them run, good for them. I just think it's funny that one caused letsrunners to throw a collective hissy fit.

Maybe because he lost over 100 lbs and is setting a good example for all the fat asses out there. I still don't like the idea of him getting in Boston but oh well.

Katie is skinny and has all the resources she needs to train for a good marathon. I'm sure she has more time on her hands to train than someone who is running for president. She doesn't even try.

Depends on your frame of comparison. There are 300,000,000 people in this country. How many of them have run a 4:30 marathon or faster ? Then do the math for a percentage. Actually, what he's done is outstanding in this context.

I didn't say anything against religion...I called Huckabee a "right winged fundamentalist nut"......so therefore no I DONT have a problem with Ryan Hall being called a runner...he's entitled to his faith...and at least IF HE IS a fundamentalist he doesn't bring it into politics

just because someone is a jesus bible believing christian evangelical american does not mean they will always support the religious right or the religious candidate in politics.

i have no idea who Ryan Hall supports, but don't assume he is a warmongering republican just because he is a devout christian. maybe he is, who knows. but i've met too many christians who are not Mike Huckabee/George Bush type republicans. Many are and have been against the war from the start. Many even care about the environment and global warming...eeeek!

Surely you jest. Many of our presidents have been extremely un-religious or even anti-religious.

The first six presidents Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, JQ Adams) were not members of any church and were extremely skeptical of religious influence in American government.

Likewise, one of the greatest presidents, Lincoln, didn't belong to any church, and many of his friends and law partners said he was practically an atheist.

It's only in recent years that the religious right has pressured politicians to talk about their religious beliefs, and to publicly profess a deep faith.

Over 400,000 people ran a marathon last year. 4:29 was the median time for men. So his times put him in about the very middle of all male runners. For all runners the average time was around 4:42.

If the guy runs 20 miles a week then that is not a bad time.

Yeah, no one likes Huckabee except all those folks who have voted for him or caucused for him or all the folks in Arkansas who voted to elect him several times.

Washington invoked "God" many times in speeches. I think there is a difference in being religious and using the power of government to establish religion, but to say they were not religious is stupid.

While there is a religious right there is also a powerful religious left. In fact Huckabee believes in a lot of leftist things and he seems a bit more of a religious left type except for his views on abortion.

i actually dont understand this. huck is conservative on abortion and not much else. whatever he is, he is not really much of a conservative. he is getting savaged by the conservative press, including rush limbaugh and other commentators.

he is a tax and spender, he is weak on immigration issues... just because he is a minister and talks about his faith some people have got the idea he is a conservative. i think he has tried to portray himself as a conservative to get votes from romney. further, evangelicals vote and it is the true believers that come out in the primaries. iowa has a lot of evangelicals. it sounds smart to me to try and appeal to the most motivated voters at this stage, especially when those voters may have a natural aversion to mormon romney.

if the republican base viewed him as a conservative this race would be over and he would have won it. most understand he is not, though he did trick you.

BFD. He can run if he's got the qual time so what. The wackoh is a nut job mythologist. The dude would have the U.S., Crusading in the Middle East for his mythology, when we ought to be rebuilding New Orleans.
