This is what every d1 runner gets, free shoes, shirts, and usually the team goes on some kind of training camp somewhere. Big woop he has an altitude tent? Youre just jealous of a great american distance runner, and one day you will be praising him.
By the way im about 90% sure this picture was taken at regionals not nationals....
That's right---free spikes and a week in the mountains at some training team camp wherever...That's the same as a month in Italy, a month living and training at a resort in New Mexico, having the free use of all the Nike Campus shit...Rupp paid back $6,000 so the NCAA knew he got extra benefits far beyond the normal DI perks...Do you think you and your personal coach and one or two family members joining you at various times could spend a couple months traveling to Europe and altitude locations for $6000?
Rupp is an outstanding runner. My point is that he got extra benefits that would have caused any other runner to lose eligibility, but Nike paid off the NCAA and Oregon.

I'm going to agree with you for two reasons. A) I believe that the official watching them is is Mrs. McChesney (mother of the late Billy McChesney of Oregon)who lives in Eugene, and it appears to be much brighter than NCAA's.
So how do you bashers feel now? Ohh, and Mrs. McChesney certainly doesn't agree with the negative view on Galen, she's a fan.

First, you don't know how much stuff like that costs. Additionally top NCAA runners do get to go to Europe, their team will pay for it, Russell Brown went last year for example. And many other NCAA athletes have gone.Would you prefer that he give up these opportunities just so everyone could have the same stuff? Would you say "no, no, I don't want to do every possible thing I can to be great, its not fair, some people don't have the same chances."

His parents have money + he is good at running = a huge conspiracy invovling Nike because no parents make enough to travel to Europe or purchase an altitude tent. I have another hypothetical conspiracy... Stuart Eagon of University of Wisconsin who is also from Oregon. He had an altitude tent in highschool and his parents are wealthy + he too is a great distance runner therefore all of his luxuries in his life are paid for by addidas and not his parents.
Most people are just looking for ways to be angry with Rupp, when the fact is that jealousy is fueling their anger because maybe their parents aren't as wealthy as his and they will never be able to run half as well as Galen has.
One more thing... People complain that Cross Country doesn't receive good or any publicity. Well maybe if runners would come together and show support for their outstanding athletes instead of breaking them down this could happen. But it seems that Cross Country on the national scale is just one big joke because no one will ever be able to respect people that complain, make excuses, and act like whiny little b****'s because so and so is better than they are and it just isn't fair. But chances are runners will keep complaining and keep finding new reasons to be angry with Galen or the next big thing. You know maybe instead of blaming Nike, money, Alberto, we should just get down to the core of it all and blame his damn Genetics!

Wow, I'm a fan who just loves running. I am also an old runner who ran with Galen's mom in college. She was a person of integrity. She worked really hard despite the injuries that plagued her. I cannot believe that she and her husband would do anything other than to raise a son who works hard for everything he gets. Surely he is talented. But he works for those free pairs of shoes. When I see Galen run I think about what a great thing for his family to see after how hard they have worked. I remember how hard his mom worked in college to get the job of her dreams.
I can sure see why Josh McDougal would be careful about what he reads before competition.
