Tupelo has ONE, count it, ONE school (in the whole city )for K - 12 , which #'s over 6000 kids. Correct??????? The high school may only have around 2000 (which is still big), but you get every middle school kid that comes up through the ranks. I've seen Tupelo at meets before, there must be well over 100 runners, boys and girls combined, that you all have. That's a huge advantate. There was a movemet there not long ago to create another school. That movement was shot down by all the athletic boosters of their respective sports. I wonder why..........
Why are you so adamant in telling me what Tupelo, the city that I was raised in, has for public schools. Where did you get this information? You must have some underlying issue with Tupelo. Tupelo has one high school (~2200 kids), one middle school (not sure of numbers, 7-8th grades), two intermediate schools (5-6th grades), and probably 6 elementary schools. Perhaps you are confusing Tupelo with somewhere else. The city has less than 40,000 people. The reason for the large turn-out for XC is the high involvement of the coaches, and the reasons for their performance are hard work and smart training.
I hope this clears things up. I suppose that you might just not believe me, but feel free to confirm it via Google or something.
On a side note, I spent some time training with Gordon Fisher a couple years ago. He was working on, I believe, his Masters degree here at Mississippi State. He was really fit during one season, and he did most of our workouts with us. He's a great guy, cool and very knowledgeable about the sport. He's now at Auburn, getting his PhD.
