pretty sure it's from this video - well it's definitely Kenny Branagh narrating
The Olympians
Released in 1992, this video will go far in meeting the interests of the middle distance fan seeking coverage of Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe. Starting from the 1976 Olympic 800 meter final ran by Ovett, this film scans the careers of both men through the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Coe was the first athlete to repeat as 1500 meter Olympic Champion and you will also see many World Record performances, medal ceremonies, and commentary from the athletes themselves. There are images of training, racing, and many awards regarding the accomplishments of these great runners. This production has a length of 26:30 and is narrated by Kenneth Branagh, directed by Ken McGill, written by Patrick Collins, and produced by Neil Duncanson. This video is rare and consider yourself lucky if you see it available on an auction web site.

That is not a credible source man!!! That is just some high mileage runner coming on the board and saying he talked to seb coe and that is what he said. Now b/c of that bs source, seb coe is quoted as being a "100mpw training 2xa day runner." He prob was training 2xday, but 100mpw, come on.
David Martin has said the same thing.
Thanks a lot for that, really enjoyed watching them!
the video is a great one to have. one of my favorites, along with 'the supermilers'. my coach in hs use to lend it to me and i'd soak that sh*t up. i think it's pretty hard nowadays to get ahold of 'born to run'. i might try and get it from my hs coach some day.
i'm broke right now, so i can't purchase these, but here is the video 'born to run' on amazon.com.
Coe part 6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtYrdLCjvQU
This is great stuff. Thanks.
Hey, what happened? Parts 4 and 5 are now listed as "Remove by the User"?
click on user link - i think he reloaded the vids and sorted out the sound
Anyone more information about his training except stuff which is already published by his father,
Well it doesn't get more first hand than coming from the guy who probably watched nearly every stride Seb ever took. What more do you want? Made up stuff?

Actually, if you followed this site at the time of that thread, you would realize that the information came from a VERY credible source.
The guy who started that thread after having lunch with Coe - Martin-x - was a long time poster on this board. He posted in favour of low mileage/high intensity, and was of the very strong opinion that Coe was a low mileage runner.
That thread was in effect an admission by Martin-x that he was in fact wrong, and he knew it straight from the horse's mouth.
If I recall, he had lunch with Coe because he was a journalist in Britain, and managed to wangle his way into a lunch discussing the London Olympics bid. I think he said he's a business reporter, but he somehow managed to tag along for lunch with his hero.
The news from Coe shocked him, and he was man enough to come on here and tell what he heard and admit he had been wrong.
The information in that thread is credible in my opinion.
I think the fact is not how much milage he ran. The key is he trained at 5 paces in sessions year round + good milage + plyos + lots of weights + stretching.
He developed everything. The milage got high with the level of training, but when the milage was high, the amount of weights was high, the amount of anaerobic reps was high, everything was high.
From my own experiance in the USA, if people adopted a similar 5 pace model and used good milage that they already do, they would improve alot. Where this model is being used, someone on 60-70mpw would be expected to be 14:30 5K at least.
Someone who uses this model and had 100mpw going on plus all the weights would be moving pretty damn fast over 1500m-10K.
Seb Coe was good, but Mayock was better
David Sharpe would have been the best of all. Shame he never had an alarm clock or a brain.
Hello,
I have the same opinion about the 5-pace-theory as you. If you got more interesting information about his training please tell me. I love the training videos of coe doing 800m runs on the road. I did the same thing and it is true that you get pushed by the car behind you.
