Why is Carter the only one getting a felony charge of simple criminal damage to property? The other two, whom don't seem to be any less responsible, if not more so for allegedly kicking a window in, have a misdemeanor charge of simple criminal damage to property.
Does anyone find it somewhat telling about the sad state of track and field that the redshirt linebacker gets most of the attention in the article? Here we have the second-fastest 200m guy in history, a guy who won 4 ncaa titles in one year...but the redshirt linebacker gets all the attention. All he did was ram the car with his body while Carter jumped on the hood presumably causing much more damage. Granted this guy Odom has had another arrest, but still. I guess we're fortunate that the guy who smashed the window didn't get even more attention than Carter in this article.
I don't get it. Carter is quite possibly the greatest athlete LSU has ever had. He's an obvious gold medal contender in Beijing. What must a track guy accomplish to get a headline in a local newspaper over a redshirt football player? If this same incident had happened to Michael Johnson in 1997 with some other local big-school redshirt linebacker, would the double-gold medallist and WR-holder's involvement still be an after-thought in the local newspaper?

The redshirt linebacker has done things similar to this in the past. In fact, he had literally just been pulled off of a team suspension(for almost the same thing, went to some guy's house looking for a fight and wound up damaging a door) just a week before.
This is the linebacker's 2nd criminal charge in a month.

the reason the linebacker gets the headline is because he was just recently reinstated to the team after a similar retarded move. coach miles seems to be losing a little bit of control and people are starting to get nervous...especially after the ryan perriloux counterfeiting/fake id scandals.

on topic, it's sad that a guy like xavier carter hasn't grown up in connection with his presumed financial success following his 4 NCAA titles. this lack of maturity is far too common among successful young athletes who have tasted financial success.
I don't think it is racism. He put himself into a position that is very stereotypical. The star athlete who is incoherent and sounds retarded who gets into trouble with women and the law. Mike Tyson syndrome?

I don't think it has to do with their skin color, but their behavior. I mean what do you picture when you think about the actions that just occurred. Bodies ramming into cars, jumping up and down on them. I see some angry gorillas or monkeys in peoples clothes, whatever the skin color.
Also offensive is the use of the word "retarded" to describe the actions. Increase the vocabulary and find alternative ways of describing the actions.
kaitainen - your reaction is the appropriate one. Carter is past the age where this can be chalked up to adolescent foolishness, and it is a tragedy that he has seen fit to dilute his success and his accomplishments (which can offer him a lifetime of advantage) to engage in this kind of activity. No matter the outcome of any criminal proceedings, this is not the kind of conduct that he ought to be engaging in, especially given his considerable talents and opportunities.

Agreed. I don't think Xavier Carter is severely mentally handicapped. And if he is, that's not the reason for his criminal behavior. Percentage wise, most mentally handicapped people are not criminals.

Seriously, the skin color has nothing to do with it like the other guy said. But I see many behavioral similarities between many black males and the monkeys in the zoo. Not all, mind you.

It's funny you mention this. The only time I recall witnessing this behavior was when a teammate of mine, on the cross-country team at MIT, jumped up on the hood of a car during a group run. He wasn't Asian, though. (He also wasn't black.)

Why don't you spend a little time thinking about race and social class? It'll help you understand what you see.
Keeping them separate is gonna let you understand a lot of things that you're not gonna understand if you mix them up.
Unless of course you're one of those people who denies the existence of social/economic classes in our country.
