All great movies that deserve to be mentioned when talking about the greatest of all time.

But I do agree with the op's decision to put The Shawshank Redemption at the top of the list.

Morgan Freeman is incredible in that movie.

Indeed Pulp Fiction, my best friend had mentioned that along with Casino. Pulp Fiction didn't get up there because a lot of guys discussed thoroughly how even though the movie is great but there's a lot of "copycatting" done by Quentin Tarantino in this movie in relation to older and much less popular films. They said it's very good but only deserves so much recognition because a lot of scenes/ideas were taken from other films.

Also I'm online this late cause we just got back from late night paintballing, and anyways couple of the guys who were on "The Comission" have been reading the comments and said to put the list up of the MAIN movies we discussed, which does not include movies that were mentioned but "trashed" so to speak because basically it was pretty obvious it was not a legit candidate for the running. That way you guys can look over and discuss that list as well if you feel like it.

As you can see we have no life, at least for today we didn't which is why we redeemed ourselves and went paintballing. Anyways time for sleep.

*This movie was very heavily debated to the point where two of the guys almost got into a fist fight haha. It was funny, well not to them at least. This movie briefly stood at #4.

**Another one that was debated very heavily on. Great arguments on this and no so great ones, this should actually be in the honorably mention (at worst) but we never actually came to a conclusive decision on this movie.

I have not seen Dr.Strangelove but a former workmate of mine used to go on about it as a must see.

The Shawshank Redemption is my favourite of all time.

It seems that this list is basically the greatest dramatic movie of all time. It would be too hard to rate a comedy as the greatest. Some of my other favourites are: (without putting them in order. Too hard and my opinion varies a lot at times with movies.)

Forrest Gump-Just gets better the more I watch

it... nothing quite like it before or since.

Lord of the Rings-All three are impressively directed,

acted, choreographed, etc

A River Runs Through It-Brad Pitt is great as the brother

and you can't beat the scenery and the fishng!

The Great Escape-Love this star studded movie about escape

from a German POW camp. A must see!!!!

Maverick-Funny, good acting, Gibson, Foster, Garner, Greene

are all great...very entertaining

Legends of the Fall-Another Pitt classic, tragic and moving

Shawshank Redemption-Everyone has aleady said, amazing

movie!

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid-Paul Newman is the man,

not to mention Robert Redford...great story

High Noon-My favorite old Western. Cooper takes on all

those fools!

Walk the Line-I just love Johnny Cash...loved the mosic and

and loved Reese Witherspoon.

Why is this? It seems that comedy gets no respect in lists like this, but maybe because when it's done well, it looks so effortless.

Movies like Some Like it Hot, Annie Hall definitely deserve some consideration.

Sigh....so many crap "hollywood" films in these lists. People, try L'Aventura, 8 1/2, La Regle De Jour, Blowup, The Life And Death Of Colonel Blimp, for starters.

Anybody else like Cool Hand Luke? Easily the best "literature in film" type movie that I've ever seen. Then again, I haven't seen much.
